Any suggestions for an affordable online Doctorate or PhD in Software Development/Software Engineering/Computer Science or related field? I'm a US resident (Texas) and would prefer a regionally-accredited US college. However, I actually have dual citizenship (US and Austria) so I'm wondering if there might be some cheap distance learning options within the EU for me, as long as the degree would still be recognized here in the US. Since I currently work as a Software Engineer it would have to be a part-time program. I am interested in potentially teaching Software Engineering or Computer Science at an online college in the future. A PhD would certainly come in handy there.
I did search the forum and so far the most promising option seems to be Mississippi State https://www.online.msstate.edu/phcse , but I'm still looking... I appreciate any ideas and insights!
Thank you guys.
On top of what you found it looks like there's also:
North Dakota - https://und.edu/programs/computer-scienc...nline.html
University of Arkansas - Little Rock - https://ualr.edu/news/2022/11/03/online-...doctorate/
Dakota State has PhD - Information Systems - https://dsu.edu/programs/phdis/index.html and Cyber Defense - https://dsu.edu/programs/phdcd/index.html
Clarkson - https://www.clarkson.edu/graduate/computer-science
Florida Atlantic University - https://www.fau.edu/engineering/eecs/gra...ional-phd/
Outside of the US there are quite a few in the UK. These are all public research universities, roughly in the order
University of York - https://www.cs.york.ac.uk/postgraduate/r...grees/phd/
Swansea University - https://www.swansea.ac.uk/postgraduate/r...-learning/
University of Portsmouth - https://www.port.ac.uk/study/courses/pos...-computing (https://www.port.ac.uk/Study/Postgraduat...arning-PhD)
Manchester Metropolitan University - https://www.mmu.ac.uk/study/postgraduate...t/7085.php
University of Bradford - https://www.bradford.ac.uk/postgraduate/...h-degrees/
London South Bank - https://www.lsbu.ac.uk/study/course-find...matics-phd
University of Wolverhampton - https://www.wlv.ac.uk/courses/phd-postgr...thematics/
Birmingham City University - https://www.bcu.ac.uk/courses/ctn-resear...hd-2023-24
Unless it's due to a funding issue the UK Based schools are essentially all ranked better than the US-based programs which is a consideration with PhD programs. Clarkson and UND rank around where Wolverhampton and Birmingham City do. The other upside of UK based PhD programs is they are mostly research only Phds so no further coursework to complete.
