To defer student loans you have to be enrolled a minimum of 1/2 time which is 6 credits (2 courses) per semester.

I guess it wouldn't make sense to do this at UMPI as it's $1500 per session. There are places in Florida that are online at $250 per course.

Exactly, you want to take courses at the institution you finish the degree with for residency requirements. Otherwise, taking the cheapest community college credits are your best bet. It might even be better to take community college credits out of state for those institutions that do not have a second fee for out-of-state students, these are graded/RA credits.
