If you are going to Excelsior, you don't need ANY speech credits. You can absolutely surpress the speech credits ALTOGETHER and take something else to replace the missing credits.
I am wondering why your advisor would say that to you. I'd get a second opinion.
Numerous people have stated that they were easily able to remove 'bad' credits from their Excelsior transcript and replace them with higher grades via exams.
Please don't accept this advisor's response as your final answer.
