Grade Point Average (GPA) (page 49)
Excelsior College does not report cumulative grade point averages on official transcripts. The College reserves the right to choose which transfer credits apply towards students’ degree programs, however, students have the option to add or delete coursework at any time prior to degree conferral. Therefore, a cumulative grade point average may not accurately reflect the true academic history of a student and is not reported on transcripts. Students may request an official GPA letter from the academic advising staff should they wish to have this information reported.
Essentially, you get to "pick and choose" your transcripted courses & exams... but apparently GPA for the excluded coursework would be included in that official GPA letter.
I'm set to speak to an advisor in an hour or so, so I'll [hopefully] confirm this and repost.
I took courses years ago at the community college and stopped going, giving me several Incompletes, Withdrawals, and Fs. I had only ONE class I passed, College Algebra.
A week ago I requested the CC to send Excelsior my transcript for this one College Algebra course. I was under the impression that the Fs would not be accepted from reading literature long before I enrolled.
Today I decided to call advisement because I sort of freaked out thinking the Fs would be included in my transcript and I'd be screwing up my whole GPA. The advisor told me that since the failures were not core requirements and I took them at another school, the Fs would not be transcripted. Furthermore, the Fs that came with my transcript wouldn't appear in that special "GPA letter" mentioned in the catalog. She went on to say only courses taken at Excelsior College with Fs are transcripted, and even they can be removed as long as you send notification before you complete your last class/credit. I can only assume that core courses would have to be retaken and the new grade replaces the old one.
So basically, I get to keep my 3 credits for College Algebra, and the other horrible grades aren't even documented. hilarious
