Both the the History CLEP exams cover a huge amount of information but not as much as the Western Civ. exams. Something that was recommended to me, and I think may have helped, was to take US Histoy II first because it is information that you are probably more familiar with as it is more recent. I think for both US history exams I used only study guides with (practice exams) from a local library and some online searches. I found it helpful to printout a generic timeline of important US historical events as well as a list of the presidents and when they served. I think I only crash studied for both exams and although my scores are not sky high - they are passing. In fact the day I took the US I, I also took American Government which I had not studied at all for - but they both cover A LOT of very similar material.
