I would definitely recommend the Official CLEP Study Guide--it is put out by the same people who write the CLEPs, so it would give you the best idea of whether you are ready or not.
You can use this link CLEPÂ History of the United States I Exam Guide to take the test. (You do have to pay a little, but it's worth it if it can tell you whether you are ready or not).
Generally, I tried for over 60% on that exam, just to make sure I had some room for change.
