#1

New member. Please be gentle. In 2004 i walked down the aisle when I received enough credits to do so (108) and never finished. Now i need to finish my undergrad to fulfill becoming a cfp. It needs to be an acreddited school. I'm looking for online, cheap and the one that will allow me the most credit transfer and least amount of more credits to finish. My credits are from florida international, miami dade college and also have some clep. Also my gpa was shitty. I was not dedicated in my youth. Ijust wanted to party. My gpa is/was 1.788. Any help would greatly be appreciated

FIU does online courses. If you can get reinstated, maybe you can complete with them. Another option is to do TESCs BSBA in Finance. You can probably test out the remaining courses. If tesc is a good school for you, let me know and ill try to plug in the credits.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

I applied with tesc I would def look into their program...FIU the per credit cost has just risen to an unbelievable amount. If you could plug in the credits that would be amazing, would be very nice of you....testing out would be ideal for me.

fiu wants me to take 8 classes and get a 2.0 a bit rough if thomas edison is a bit more lenient and will let me finish out at 120

Welcome to the forum, I'm sure we can help you figure it out. If these are the correct costs for FIU, and if you only need 12 or so credits they are probably going to be tough to beat. Costs & Aid - Florida International University - FIU

The problem is specific degree requirements at the various schools and the various fees involved.

I would definitely figure out the costs of finishing at your two original schools, bench mark those costs and difficulty against whatever else you can find.

MAN4504 Operations Management

FIN3414 Intermediate Finance

FIN4324 Commercial Bank Management

FIN4486 Financial Risk Management

FIN/REE Elective

3 Upper Division Business electives

The other requirement on the attached sheet is Global Learning, which is a requirement FIU added in 2011, and applies to all students; the good news is that you’ll be able to find electives that have the Global Learning designation. You need 2 GL classes, so you have the elective room for it

The above is from a friend of mine advisor from fiu. She did the leg work for me. It would be 24 credits and a 3.0 in each class. I can't imagine it will still be cheaper doing 24 there than 12 elsewhere. I will try miami dade see if it could be 12 there and done online. But id love to know my other options like testing through completion. Does seem like im in a pickle

You seem to have plenty of UL credit, that's a good thing. I actually think you could likely be done at charter oak rather quickly. Really just any general eds that you missed (you can ckep these). Plus cornerstone and capstone. I will try to cull through your list in the morning and give a better idea...

TESC might be an option too. I see a Strategic Management course and a bunch of UL electives. You may need to do the 24 credit residency, but you might be able to knock it out with some of the easier TECEPs.

I would suggest applying to both schools and see what the evaluations look like.

Below is a quick write-up for you with Thomas Edison. Overall, it looks like your total GPA with both schools is just shy over 2.0 which means you can graduate with TESC pretty easy. You will need to find two Finance courses to squeeze in. You lost some credits because they didn't either fit, or because they were remedial in nature.

This is a WAG where the credits will go and TESC may decide a different approach. Like was stated earlier, Charter Oak now has a BSBA also and you may be able to complete with them just as fast. Also Charter Oak has an academic forgiveness policy and you can probably exclude your Fs and bring your GPA up with Charter Oak. I see you have CLEP'd before. If you are willing to shell out TESC's annual enrollment fee (over $3000 for non residents), you can clep out most of this degree. Otherwise, you can complete 24 TESC credits (TECEP/TESC Online Courses) and save some money. I plugged in some TECEP credits already to give you an idea.

If you ever decide that you want to go to grad school, you may want to take as many graded credits as possible to bring your GPA up. Like I stated earlier, it may be worth it to stay with FIU if you are a Florida resident. Like was stated earlier, apply with both TESC and Charter Oak ($75 fee each plus transcripts) and see where you're at. Then see which one of the schools (FIU, TESC, COSC) puts you in a better position with ease/speed/cost.

Firstly, WOW. Thank you so very much, what a selfless thing you have done for me. I mean do you accept tips or just wow thank you, I'd like to know if there is a way we can maybe talk over the phone? If not I understand, I will try to post some of my questions here and maybe you or others can help me out.

1. This is a WAG where the credits will go-What does this mean? I googled every term I was not sure of and this is the one I could not find
2. annual enrollment fee of $3000 PLUS clep costs?
3.
24 TESC CREDITS (TECEP/TESC Online Courses)- Did not know what TECEP was but it does seem very enticing, So it looks like tecep 4 classes for 12 credits and 2 courses for the 6, so 102+18=120?
4. Why TECEP VS. CLEP?
5. TECEP is there information available to study before hand a bit for a better opportunity at passing?
5. If I had to 24 credits at FIU vs 24 credits at TESC through just regular online method I would think FIU would be better, but I assume TECEP would make it faster and probably cheaper than the actual courses?
6. Is Miami Dade college a better consideration than FIU? There is not much online about this business program but I do believe they have a bachelors in business now
7. I had not looked into Charter Oak yet, from the other board it seemed like preference was TESC and Excelsior, so would the second better option between Excelsior and COSC, be COSC?
8. Am I looking if I do TESC at Total Cost 12 x ($37 tecep cost) ($6 x $236 tesc course cost) + ($3,154 Out of state resident cost) = $5014? looks costly compared to http://www.mdc.edu/main/business/financi...dfees.aspx if they do have a Bachelor in Business program...may be more credit's by classes that I have to take but a savings
9. Would I be able to do the best of both worlds? as in avoid annual enrollment fee and just do the tecep?

As I get further in my question list I realize I should just wait on some responses and I will learn more

I did a lot of research over the weekend and sent out a bunch of requests for information, I anticipate quite a few calls (hopefully) from the top 3 and maybe even Miami Dade College, as for Grad school, I honestly don't believe I will. I've learned to never say never, but if I can reiterate my concerns in order would be, Cost, Ease (exam preference over class), lastly time...I'm not in a super rush where I need my degree in a semester, It can be a year to a year and a half, even if it takes two not the end of the world. I just want to have it done before I sit for my CFP exam.

Thank you so much Prloko, I gained so much knowledge from your post and write up...you are a very kind person for doing that for a stranger.
