HorseManiac Wrote:I was actually thinking along the same lines. I was thinking the reason some of the pass rates are so low is because since military can take the tests for free, they have nothing to lose if they don't pass it so maybe some of them didn't prepare as much as they would have if they were paying for it. Not that ALL of those in the military are like that, but I'm sure that some are.
My thoughts as well. Wonder what the rates would look like for "everyone else" Confusedmilelol:

It's free the first time for people in the military. If you want to take the same CLEP a second time(whether you passed or failed the first time) you have to pay for it out of your own pocket.
Cleps Passed:

Information Systems & Computer Applications - 64
Spanish - 58
Analyzing & Interpreting Lit - 71
Principles of Macroeconomics - 53
Principles of Microeconomics - 61
Introductory Sociology - 54
Calculus - 51
Biology - 67

I will tell you that a great majority of the folks taking these tests have not studied in any way shape or form. They usually just call the ed office and have a couple of tests lined up, and then show up and take them. If they pass, great! If they fail, no big deal as its free. I saw this a lot over the last 14 years. Imagine if they actually applied themselves.

Yes, but I have a feeling that the numbers have adjusted some since DOD instituted the policy change that they would only cover the first attempt. When I look at my numbers year-by-year, there was definitely a drop in volume once this policy was changed. We do not see very many DANTES-funded candidates at our test center, but I can tell you that those who do take their exam here have taken the time to study because they do not want to come up with the $80 for another attempt down the road.

That was an interesting read. Thanks for sharing.

Does the College Board still maintain a publicly-available list of the percentile ranks corresponding to scores for a given CLEP exams?
Course clear! You got a card.

Bibby, I believe what you are referring to is something that was released unintentionally by a university. It is NOT intended for the public, but for test center administrators only.

No, I'm talking about the table in the back of the College Board's CLEP Sampler book, which showed the percentile ranks if you earned a certain score for a CLEP exam. It seems that table was removed in later editions of the book (although I'm not positive, since I've had a hard time finding newer versions in bookstores, and I'd rather not order it online).

Whoa, that sounds like a very cool feature!
