AAS Capstone?
#1
Anyone know anything about having to do a capstone for a AAS Environmental, Safety & Security Technologies degree? After I found this site and realized I had almost everything necessary for that degree. I decided to go for it, problem was that TESC had an extended holiday and didn't open back up until after the new year. My ticket finally got solved to add the extra program today and I look at the degree plan and it shows APS 295 Associate Capstone. Is there anything I can do to test out of this or anything?

(Note; all the empty slots have already been filled via FEMA, ALEKS and Straighterline, just waiting to finish the Analyzing & Interpreting Lit CLEP next week and waiting for TESC to receive my transcripts )

I did that degree last year and didn't have a capstone. It still doesn't show on their site (Thomas Edison State College: Environmental, Safety & Security Technologies) that there is a capstone so I'd call them tomorrow and ask. It won't let me run an evaluation since I no longer have an active program but I hadn't heard that they were changing that.
My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.

When I run the degree from the drop down list it doesn't have this requirement (it also runs the program through 2011-2012 program), but when I run it through the programs that I'm enrolled in it shows up. It looks like they pulled 3 hours from the free electives and added that course. Though when I look through the courses catalog etc there's no mention of a course with that number.

Which department should I contact about this?

Try calling the advising expressline at 1-888-442-8372. If that doesn't work you may have to schedule an advising appointment with the AAS advising team. Let us know how it goes, this is a very popular test out degree (for the two year level) so I'm sure others would love to know.

I just spoke to an academic advisor yesterday regarding that very degree and she said i did not have to have a capstone for it because it wasn't required of the Associates degree in ESST or any Assoc degree. ;-)

Just got off the phone with the 888 number. The lady I spoke with there said that she wasn't sure, but did know that they made some changes to several of the AAS programs. She advised that I should submit a ticket about the issue; now I'm just waiting on a response.

Bad news for people in the future, the capstone is now a requirement according to academic advising. I'm going to try to get them to waive the requirement for me since I did request it at the beginning of December and it was overlooked.

Ew. It looks like I won't be getting anymore degrees from TESC unless it's the BSBA or an undergraduate certificate.

Wow, no kidding. I can understand why they require it at the BA level but for an AAS??? That doesn't make sense to me.
