I love these boards, I've been reading them for a few days now and finally have my questions ready:
I just got accpted to TESC and am in the AAS in Applied Computer Studies program, Can anyone give me some insight if my plan for classes makes sense? Also, can anyone confirm where the 12 credits for Spanish will hit? Is it Humanities, General Education Electives or Free Electives or a combination of all?

I would use Aleks.com for your MAT-105 requirement. TESC does not give credit for A+, Network+ or Security+ certifications. Only certain Microsoft certs get credit.
I would think long and hard about paying the enrollment fee and graduation fee just for your AAS. Do you plan on going after a Bachelors degree?
I did tons of CLEP, DSST, Aleks, FEMA and Straighterline BEFORE I enrolled at TESC. I made sure I could finish my BA in the 12 months the enrollment is valid. As soon as I enrolled I applied for my AAS graduation. I took 4-5 classes and had my BA done. All in one 12 month enrollment period so only one enrollment fee.

I do not plan on going for a Bachelor's. (as of now, things change after years go by, never thought I'd be starting college now this many years later) I need to get a 2 year degree to help with my job, plus it will help the resume since I have all the experience but no degree.
I thought I read on these forums that TESC gives 2 credits each for A+ and N+ if you send in a notarized copy? I will have to do more resarch on that.
I'll look into ALEKS for Math, I'm horrible at math so I was taking the easiest college level math I can. Scheduled to take the Spanish CLEP in 2.5 weeks, just not sure where it fall on my list of classes yet since it will count for 12 credits.
Thanks for the info Jam123

If you only need one computer class, would DSST MIS exam work for that?
I would think Spanish would be placed where you have it.

If you already have computer skills then both the Intro to PC and the MIS exams are easy

Go for the bachelors. No guts no glory and it won't cost much more. The bachelors is more bang for the buck over an associates than a masters is over a bachelors in my opinion.
Network+ is not a computer elective at TESC, its a biz elective
You can take the CLEP Info Sys, the MIS DSST (UL), and the Network Tech TECEP (UL).
I would recommend taking a couple computer classes at TESC to fill out the CIS electives for the bachelors. You have to pay a lot of money for a year of enrollment so you might as well spend the 12 months working toward the bachelors. Don't pay the money till you get enough credits for the associates. That will ensure you have enough time to finish the bachelors degree.
I'd recommend a BSBA CIS. You will learn a lot about business and there are a lot of test out options.
BSBA CIS from TESC, BA Natural Science/Math from TESC
MBA Applied Computer Science from NCU
Enrolled at NCU in the PhD Applied Computer Science

I heard the COMPTIA courses were transcribed as CAP. An advisor (for what it's worth) told me the CAP prefix is acceptable for the AAS in Computer Studies. This is exactly what was written to me.
Dear XXXX,
Hello. You are correct. CMP, CIS, COS, and CAP are the course prefixes that can be used in the AAS in Computer Studies. Please let us know if you need anything else. Take care!

I had several IT certs transcribed as CAP prefix and only one "Visual Basic" was accepted as a computer elective for my BA Computer Science degree. The others were not accepted. Maybe AAS is different.
One thing I learned about TESC is no email or phone call means much until it shows up on your evaluation.

But the computer science program is more narrowly focused and so is the BSBA in CIS. Computer Studies is supposed to be a catch-all for computer courses.

I'm not sure if the dsst exam would apply because I thought I read the computer clep and dsst exams both count as the same. Can anyone confirm that?
