ACE evaluated courses for the general public
#1
The ACE website lists many organizations that have been
reviewed. I'm curious does anybody know if these organization
have courses available to the public free or inexpensive. I know
of several organizations such as the American Hotel and Hospitality
do. I went to a number of websites to find out but I couldn't find
anything. The courses are either exclusive or inaccessible

I don't have a direct answer for your question, so I'm really not any help. However, I do want to add a tip of personal advice:

Be sure to double-check any sources on the ACE site and confirm that you can get the credit for whatever the course/class (call ACE and the place you are interested in attaining credits from). I had a bad experience and I thought I wasn't going to get credit for three courses I had taken at a seminary that were supposed to be transferred through ACE. After a long process, I was able to get credit for those courses, but two of the courses were 2 credits each when I expected them to be 3, because that was on their site. I'm taking an additional TESC course in order to graduate, because I was two credits short!

It's amazing what you can find on there, what I found still surprises me.

I really love diving, and have both Open Water and Advanced Open Water diving certifications from my vacations around southeast asia...both turn out to be worth 1 credit. In fact, if I continued on, I could get more credit for other certifications there.

(Fyi these courses are by no means cheap and aren't a cost effective way to get credits, just was a coincidence for me)

So I guess I didn't really answer your question, was just surprised about that and wanted to let people know. If, by some coincidence you are a diver (must be PADI licensed) or want to be, you can get credit for it, I think it's under Phys. Ed

Is this experience with Seminary Extension? Can you share a little with us about what happened? I am enrolled in two courses with them right now. Intro to World Religions and Christian Ethics

Thanks... David

I am also curious to know if it is SE. I have a friend taking 4 classes with them and I would like to know what happened and how you resolved it? Where the classes upper or lower level? She needs them to graduate also.

Sorry guys, I haven't checked this thread since I posted! Now to answer David and Allison's questions...

I took three courses through the Seminary Extension in TN. I took Philosophy of Religion (TH 302), Intro to Christian Ethics (CE 231) and History of Christian Thought (CH 212) with the purpose of fulfilling 9 upper level credits in my major--Liberal Arts.

I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but if you started your course with SE after October 1, 2010, TESC won't accept those courses (I am unsure about other colleges but it may be the same). TESC will only accept courses through a seminary if they are ACE accredited, and as of October 2010, the SE switched from ACE to another accreditation source which TESC will not recognize. As I understand it, seminaries and state/public colleges have different ways of accreditation and so there has to be an over-arching accreditation (like ACE) for them to transfer.

My story in and of itself is quite a long one and it’s amazing I was able to get credit at all for my courses. I was supposed to have the courses *finished* by October 1st, but I managed to get them on an ACE transcript because I had started all mine before then. (and that involved many phone calls and emails and back and forth with TESC, the Seminary, and ACE) But even then, there was confusion on the ACE site of the number of credits for each course and that’s how I ended up 2 credits short of graduating.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

Hey Allison,

I am currently taking 2 courses through Seminary Extension. And have received written approval from TESC that they do receive credits from SE as long as they are before Oct. 2011. I checked Ace and they state that they are still Ace approved. But when I call SE they state that they have changed accreditation? I was planning on taking several more courses!! :-(

Re:
The American Hotel and Hospitality org is good, but once upon a time my husband went through the list and couldn't find enough upper level to pull out a concentration in hospitality- so unless it's changed, they are essentially 100/200 (lower level) hospitality courses, which would come in as FREE ELECTIVES in any other major. They are kinda $$ for a free elective, FEMA would be a better option.

I saw that too!! While I'm not a PADI diver, I'd love to be (and a nice incentive too!)

Thanks Vivian,

My friend just had to put up a fight to get hers on the ACE transcript. She can not take anymore classes with SE. She alittle upset. She is onto figuring out how to do the rest. Thanks for your update.
