Analyzing and Interpreting Literature CLEP for WGU

Hello all, new here so hopefully this is the right place. I am taking the Analyzing and Interpreting Literature Exam TODAY, and just now realized there is an optional essay portion to this exam.

Does anyone know if WGU requires the essay portion to be completed as well in order to satisfy the Survey of Literature Credit? I called and spoke to someone but in all honesty she didn't really seem to know what I was talking about, so if anyone has any knowledge of this I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you!

If they didn't know what you were talking about, I would gather they do not require the essay. By the descriiption it would seem to be a requirement for specific insititutions. I don't remember seeing the option on the exam when I took it but I almost ran out of time before completion, so basically just clicked the forward button checking anything until I got to the score page.

Because writing about literary texts is central to the study of literature, some colleges may require candidates to take an optional essay section in addition to the multiple-choice section. The essay section is 90 minutes long and is made up of two 45-minute questions. One question asks candidates to analyze a short poem, the other asks them to apply a given generalization about literature (such as the function of a theme or a technique) to a novel, short story, or play that they have read. I stand corrected; sorry for the misinformation.

The optional essays for this exam are hand-written -- there is no appearance of this optional section on the multiple-choice exam. There are some who are told by their school not to even bother ordering the essays until they first pass the multiple-choice. Yes, there is an extra fee for the essays ($10), plus you have to make another appointment at the test center.

I have now had two different local schools require the optional essays for Analyzing & Interpreting Lit. It's a pain from the usual process...

Thank you for explaining the essay process for the A&I exam. I must add, we are lucky to have a test center administrator on the forum to clarify testing procedures.
