Any hope for an old guy with old credits?

Basically, I would heavily favor UMPI as your first choice and use TESU as a backup option if ever needed...
1) Yes, TESU would be more expensive than two sessions at UMPI, about the same price if you go 3 sessions at UMPI.
2) UMPI BBA PM & IS will look better, UMPI BLS is equivalent to TESU BALS, except 60 electives at UMPI vs 30 at TESU
3) UMPI BBA or BLS allows 3-4 classes towards the MAOL, if you go TESU, no bachelors to masters transfer credits

UMPI has wonky gen ed requirements. For instance you need a language class no matter the major. Whichever route you go you are going to have to take some additional classes to meet gen ed requirements. Thankfully most of these should be able to be done through Sophia.

1) TESU is slightly more money but you can transfer in 114 credits and only have to take 2 classes as opposed to 10 with UMPI.
2) In your situation the TESU BALS 30 credit elective amount would not matter because you could use the additional BALS 42 Area of Study credits for all your computer classes.
3) UMPI is the cheapest Masters program around, so no argument there.

I suspect TESU will accept more credits than UMPI which is the main reason I brought it up because it looks like you have roughly 59 computer credits.

It still looks like a lot will be needed.  I think you mentioned a summary where what's still needed is highlighted in yellow, do you know where I would get that?  I'm only seeing their Degree Progress/Academic Requirements report, but it's a bit of a mess (like sometimes it shows a section is not satisfied and then shows the course/course list needed, but other times it just shows a section is not satisfied without any course references).  If this is the only report, I can clean it up and summarize the obvious ones (and question the unknowns).

Thanks!

Basically... You email your assigned success coach or your academic advisor, either of them will be able to provide you an update with the info highlighting what is remaining in the degree, previously they highlighted the remaining requirements in yellow, but I've seen them come in pink now...

Here's what they say is left.  Out of 123 credits transferred, I was hoping more would apply and that I wouldn't still need to take like 30 courses.  As usual, most of my computer stuff came over as electives.

At least a lot will match up with Sophia/Study/Coursera.  Again, I was just hoping that I wouldn't have to take quite so much.  My Coursera is about to expire, but I like their courses, so I'll probably renew.  Not sure if this is accurate (some of my matches might be out of date):

Do you have any different thoughts given this new information?  Is this still the best path, or should I be looking at a different major that might take more of the credits?

If I wanted to try the MAOL later, I don't see any room to take some of those OLS courses now to fill in anything here (since I have so many other specific courses to take)?

If I get a Sophia membership and start pounding away, do I let my advisor know what courses I'd like to apply ahead of time, or just drop it on them after it's all done?

This is quite the journey.  I sometimes feel like the goal is almost within reach, then it seems to keep moving farther away.  Smile

Thanks again!

There is no way I would go for a degree that only takes so few classes when I had 123 RA credits.

At UMPI the BAS degree should take way more credits because it does not have the business course requirements and has a tech credit bucket.

The BAS requires:

40 GEC
40 Tech Credits
40 Electives

No matter what 30 of these credits (10 courses) have to be taken at UMPI
18 credits have to UL (300-400 level).
12 of these have to be in a Minor and for you that would be a "Management Information System" minor.

Have UMPI evaluate your credits for the BAS before you do anything else.

Even at TESU the BALS NSM should take way more credits than that.

I'll ask about the BAS.  I only have an AS degree, though (not AAS), and the AAS is supposed to be a requirement for the BAS?

Would a BLS degree from UMPI considered lightweight?  If a BLS in Management or BLS in MIS would transfer a bunch more credits, is that worth considering?

For the BAS ask for an exception because you have 59 tech credits and you believe that might be a better fit. Emphasize they are from Purdue University.

The BLS in MIS should definitely transfer in more in as it is a very flexible degree program.

These schools want students and making it clear that you want to find a way to transfer in 90 credits out of 123 RA credits as a working adult is a very reasonable argument.

I also reorganized your 123 RA credits so people can see what I am talking about clearer.

Ha, thank you!  That's kind of how I felt, but it's pretty deflating when school after school wants you to start over like you only had 4 semesters of school behind you.  It still looks good on paper to me, but as it's a lot of old stuff, it's been a challenge to show the credits have any value.

That is the great thing about TESU is that they don't care about the age of the credits just so long as they are legitimate. Most people here are cobbling together ACE, CLEP and NCCRS credits, Community College credits, PLA, tech certs and work experience etc.. to make a degree out of it while you have 123 RA credits from Purdue University.

I would not settle for anything less than 90 credits in transfer (just find the right degree) and I suspect you could get more than that at TESU and probably Excelsior.
