Applying for Jobs with BGS degree.
#1
When I apply for jobs, I only see boxes for BA and BS degrees. What would I choose if my degree is a Bachelor of General Studies? Would it matter if I chose one of the BA/BS check boxes?

If it were me, I would stick with BA if my degree is mostly Liberal Arts classes and would check BS if there is a significant number of professional/technical classes. At least that way, if you are questioned about it in the future you have a good foundation to argue that you were being honest.

I agree with this.
You absolutely should check a box, if not, their computer will tag you as having no degree.

I might add as a suggestion, for what its worth and if you are not already doing this, to make your degree look more customized for the job on your resume. What I mean is, if a number of courses you have taken are applicable to a job you are applying for, you can list some of your coursework.

For example, if you are looking to work in business:

--------------------------------------------------------------
BGS, Some Universtity
-Coursework in Finance, Management and Information Systems
--------------------------------------------------------------

Or in human services,

--------------------------------------------------------------
BGS, Some University
-Coursework in Cultural Diversity, Gerontology, Child Psychology
--------------------------------------------------------------

...and so on and so forth. That is, if you don't already have enough certs and experience to make the above just look like clutter.

I sometimes have the same problem with my master's degree. It's not an MS, MA, or MBA; it's an MSS (Master of Security Studies). I just choose MA or MS.
