I have a couple of questions that I hope that someone can help me with. Iâm putting together a course plan for my son; he has not made his mind up whether to go with a BA in Social Sciences or BA in Natural Sciences/Mathematics with TESC. Although Iâm fairly certain that it will be the BA in Social Sciences path.
Questions are: What general education electives must he have to do? Can they be filled with anything or does it have to be areas considered in the social science??
Also, under D: Natural Sciences and Mathematics 12 credits, can he fill the area with 9 math credits (ALEKS) and 3 credits coming from Information Systems and Computer Applications Clep? He has completed 4 Aleks courses, would 3 of the courses go with General Ed and the other go toward Gen. Ed. Electives?
My son has not applied to TESC yet as he has just recently begun this journey, he has a long way to go before applying. He is 17 yrs. old, home schooled and we are fitting courses in where he has time.
Thanks for any help,
Jana

Bumping up since this has made it to the 2nd page~No one knows the answer to this?
Let me rephrase maybe: For the General Education Electives for a BA in Social Sciences degree at TESC, can one take Principles of Management or Principles of Marketing or dissecting a cow eyeball (if there were such a class for college credit) and have it fit into the Gen. Ed Electives???
I wouldn't need my son to take them IF they fall into the Free Electives slot since he has those pretty much taken care of.
Does he only need credits which would be in the Social Sciences to fill the Gen. Ed. Electives?
Anxiously awaiting some help...please..anyone...

Pay it forward. Besides I always look for ways to distract myself when it is getting close to a testing day

Linda, Good luck on your exam Friday!!
I love these boards, everyone is so helpful. Since finding this board several months ago, I've told a lot of my friends that have their kids doing college the regular way (Hinny in a seat) they are amazed to know about Cleps. So many folks really don't know about them. Also hearing about ALEKs from these boards has already saved us hundreds. It's like a little scholarship the way I see things.
Thanks again

Has anyone transferred any of the following courses to TESC to meet the requirements of the BA Natural Sciences/Mathematics major: Calculus III, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Organic Chemistry or Biochemistry? I would fall under the new requirements for 18 credits in the major having to be 300 level or above, so I am hoping that these courses once I have taken them will all transfer as 300 or 400 level when evaluated by TESC.
Thanks in advance...

I definitely haven't but what are they on the transcript as right now? TESC very rarely drops anything down so if they are already 300/400 (those big words definitely sound to be) then they will probably be the same at TESC.

Thanks for that insight. Some are 200 at LSU (the math courses) and the Organic Chem is a lower-level course at Cal Berkeley extension.

I also got CHE- 342 for organic chem II. I took them at a community college that gave strange 6 digit course numbers so I would think they will give you 300 level too.
