I found out Tuesday morning that I would either need to take eight hours of lab science courses next summer or pass the Biology CLEP test to graduate, with the deadline to CLEP being Saturday. My testing site only offers testing sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday, so effectively it left me with twenty-four hours to prepare for a test. I figured the financial risk of attempting a CLEP test was worth not having to pay for eight whole credit hours, so I tried it.
I used IC, Wikipedia, and took one of the Peterson practice tests. I hadn't had Biology or chemistry (as the subject includes some basic chemistry) since high school (eight years ago). I started studying at 2:30 yesterday afternoon and went in to take the test at 2:00 today, and passed with a 63. I'd been reading threads on this forum, and heard people say how daunting the Bio test is (they weren't kidding), and wanted to say that it is possible to pass it on a day's notice, though I wouldn't recommend it. I've got good cramming skills and good instincts when it comes to taking tests, and I was still sweating it when I pushed "Show My Score."
My advice to anyone taking a test for the first time is to be confident. IC was merciless to study. Just when I thought I'd figured out where it was going, it would change everything up and throw something unexpected at me, and it was hard to keep my spirits up, but I did better when I felt like I had a handle on the material (even if I still didn't know what it was talking about!). Go into the test with no doubts that you are going to pass it, answer every question like you're sure you're right, and you'll come out just fine.
