How you earn credit is up to your college, not your employer. In the same way that colleges schedule some classes via the internet, web conferencing, at one campus or another, or on Saturdays- the mode of accomplishing a credit is between you and your college.
I don't know.. I could see where some places might look at a transcript if you're being hired into a specific type of job, where they want to make sure you have background in that area. (But then again, I can't think of anything specifically off the top of my head, other than teaching - my new schtick required my transcripts so they could verify that I had IT credits though I have a Psych degree since I'm teaching IT for some reason...)

One more thought to add.... If fully-accredited colleges accept CLEP/DSST, who is your employer to disagree? First of all, as mentioned, it's doubtful that they would ever look at the transcripts, but even if they did, why would they choose to go against what thousands of colleges accept?
If an employer ever asks me about CLEP/DSST, the way I would explain it is that it's like showing up on the last day of class and passing the final exam. I've explained it like this to friends before and most are very impressed that you could do that sort of thing without having actually sat through the class.

Yes, I have no doubt that there are specific instances where specific courses need to be verified for specific things....and the other 99% of us just go on with our day lol. Seriously though, it's a legitimate question. But we are talking about gen eds.
A better question might be if the OP's field accepts CLEP. For instance someone mentioned CPA - I know they don't allow CLEP credits to count toward that. Med school isn't going to take CLEP biology/chemistry, but grad school wasn't really the OP's question. Teaching at the secondary level, might require guidance from your state board of education. Nursing might require guidance from our college's academic advisor.
There are instances when CLEP might not work for DEGREE requirements, but for an employer? Ehhhh, that's a stretch I think. I have never - ever- in my 40 years on this planet (or my husband's - I just asked) read a job description or want ad that requested a specific undergraduate course requirement. (degree yes, course by name? Uh- no).

AFAIK, Intro Financial Accounting (the CLEP) isn't considered towards CPA educational requirements (usually for accounting course requirements, it's Intermediate Accounting and higher), although it is a good idea to review your state's CPA educational requirements in advance if you think you might go into public accounting. CPA also requires non-accounting business credits, but you will need more than just a bachelor's degree to get licensed anyway.

I've looked at some federal jobs that ask for transcripts, but who's to say they have any particular attitude about CLEP?

We all started off feeling helpless and unsure, but this forum is great and since most of us have been helped out quite a bit from others here, you'll get a lot of support.
I would recommend starting off with a degree plan. I have a spreadsheet of requirements and how they can be met that I refer to frequently. If you haven't already, search the forum for other's degree plans and this will give you a few ideas. You can also post (if you haven't already) and ask for suggestions toward your own degree plan. Once you have this, everything is much easier and will fall into place.
