CLEP College Mathematics Version# and...
#1
I am planning on taking the College Mathematics CLEP soon. I am also currently deployed in Iraq...so I can't take the computer form of the test. I have been using the Princeton Review "Cracking the CLEP", InstaCert and the 18th edition of the official College Mathematics CLEP study guide. My test control officer just sent me a CLEP study guide to help me out but it is the 17th edition. I skimmed it over real quick and it looks virtually identical.

Does anyone know if anything changed between the versions of the test?

Also I have not been able to get to the peterson's CLEP practice tests because of the stupid firewall here, but I was able to get the free *.pdf study guide from petersons. The questions on their sample practice tests seem a lot harder than any of the other sources I have studied from. It has me kind of worried because I thought I was ready to test.

I ran through the official study guides sample test about 3 weeks ago with 23 out of 50 correct. I know this is low but after brushing up my never used math skills I felt I was leaps and bounds ahead of where I was initially. I am 15+ years removed from High School. I retook the test 2 days ago and got 42 out of 50 right. But I feel this is not a true barometer of my apptitude since I had taken the same test 3 weeks before....bleh.

There are a number of posts about this test already. Have you tried searching it? I do not know if there really is much difference in the versions. I would assume no. I do know that the Petersons practice questions and tests are ALOT harder than the real thing. But if you know them, study them, and understand them, you'll feel REALLY confident on the test. : ) The Cracking the CLEP book was great! If you understand it COMPLETELY and do really well on the test in that book, you will be fine. But I would search for the other mathematics posts as I know there are quite a few that tell you more specifically what you have to know. If you understand (and can actually do) the material they say you should know, then you should be ready.

Good luck!

Vornado,

I have copied & pasted several of the posts that Abby is referring to in one central location in the Specific Exams Feedback section. Here is a direct link:http://www.instantcertonline.com/forums/...-clep.html.

While none of these posts will answer your question about "newer" versions of the exam, it will give you a lot of good feedback on what to make sure to know. Personally, I have to agree with Abby...I doubt that they make major changes to this exam...if any at all. Just my two cents'. :p

Good luck!

I have been using Math version at instacert, and find the tests difficult to understand. I do not remember math problems concerning unions or intersections in any of my college math courses. This is news to me... for example, "A union of two sets of elements is the set of elements which are in either set." Never saw such problems.. any ideas? Thanks
