What do y'all think is the likelihood College Board will start offering CLEP tests with online proctoring at some point?

That would be very useful to a lot of people. With the way education is shifting, I can see that as a very real possibility.

Since all the public CLEP testing centers in my area have closed over the last few years, this couldn't come soon enough. I'm sure the College Board has seen the writing on the wall by now, so this seems like a likely outcome in the next few years.

Unfortunately, if (when) it happens, it will come too late for folks who are working on their degrees now.

It will really be helpful. As a military stationed overseas, the test centers are spreadout with schedule days limited to 2-3 days a week. The hassle also to get off at work to take the test since weekend is not an option. Looking for someone to cover for your job so that your civilian “supervisor” who likes to micromanage things is happy. I guess having an MBA really works even though you are an a$$h()73 since you can just boss around people. I guess a good motivation right there. Jk. That’s what I wouldn’t do once I get my MBA. (I guess. Haha).

Personally, I doubt this will happen. Most online proctoring seems way too insecure. I guess I could see them doing a hybrid kind of proctoring in a couple years, like if you found a librarian or licensed teacher in your area. I can't see them doing it without a proctor like that.

I’m skeptical it will happen anytime soon, but if it did I’d be much quicker to recommend CLEP. They’d be on par for convenience with the other providers, in range in price, and far more accepted by schools than the others.

I agree.  It's so inconvenient for me personally to take them that I always hesitate to recommend them to others.  If it wasn't for Modern States, I'm not sure I would recommend them at all at this point in time, although I'd certainly keep them on my spreadsheets as an option.  I guess I value convenience over all else; just a personal bias.

I do recommend them for the HS grads I work with creating degree plans for when going to a CA CC and/or CSU-system school, as they're the only thing they can take with them from CC to CSU.

I'm in the camp of "zero to never."

Their other products have extremely wide acceptance (PSAT, SAT, AP) and make CLEP look like the red-headed stepchild. The integrity of their other brands makes me think they'd rather "up" the requirements of CLEP than lowering them. I would, however, love to see them add more testing centers! There is no reason they can't integrate with the Prometric folks who already have systems in place. Just guessing like everyone else.

Sucks, because I took my first CLEP a couple weeks ago. Ended up waiting over 30 minutes just to start the test because only 2 computers were authorized for CLEP exams - or had the CLEP program or whatever - and both of them decided they needed to reboot and update before letting me use them. They finally put me in a different test room for manual overrides or something but it was right next to the reception area. I had such a hard time concentrating while someone was cooing on and on over a baby that someone on maternity leave had brought in for the office to see. I passed the test fine, but it was really frustrating to have two inconveniences that could've been avoided easily happen during my first experience. At least at home if there are any distractions I likely have 90% control over the situation and can avoid them.

CLEP doesn't make money on the testing fees, the testing center does.  So if they did online proctoring, it would just change who got that money (one of the proctoring companies vs. a testing center at a college).
