Have you ever taken Chemistry before? Do you know the basics? I haven't taken the CLEP, but have had a lot of chemistry if you don't understand the basics nothing else will come together.

My background is specifically electrical systems with heavy theory in electronics and only basic chemistry as it relates to my field. Ive been through some of the Times Education Course for chemistry. However college chemistry is a different animal. Ive considered more expensive programs, and also weighed them against just taking General Chem 1/2.

I'd say based on my basic studies in corrosion science and control coupled with electrics I am not complete in college chemistry yet. But can I get there before two seperate Chemistry 1/2 classes is what I am challenging myself to do.

Either way a failure is just a statement that I need to know more for the credit. But the risk of success is worth the challenge and the amount of money saved per credit hour is worth the price of admission. If I need to put in 60 hours between now and the test Ill lose the sleep and put in the hours. If 80 then that too. If I fail to pass then I will take Chem 1/2 anyways

Did you know MIT has free courses online that include chemistry? You can't get credit, but it might help with the study.

Yes. They look awesome. They had Physical, Organic, Etc. I wasnt sure if any 2 or 3 of the 8 courses would cover everything, but as you mention it I am looking into them more closely. If you have anything else let me know.

Ill be a pioneer here and see if ANYone can get a good enough overview to do well on this clep from the material listed and which programs actually map best to the CLEP even if I bite the dust. I am not taking it this weekend or anything I would say within February is the goal.

You might also check out the Barron's AP Chemistry book. I found it at my local library, and it's filled with quizzes, full-length practice tests, and review. Probably best if you have a base knowledge though.

Linda--congrats on passing Social Science & History!!

Well I am including you guys with me on my quest to pass the Chemistry Clep on independent preparation. Tough week last week at work 18 hour days combined with Biology and a simulator. I was just exhausted had 10 hrs of sleep friday night 4 hour nap that saturday and 9 more hours of sleep the Saturday Night night but I'm back.

With Biology done I officially Started My chemistry Preparation Sat 7th and I already have some things to report. ALEKS General Chemistry is a masterpiece but I dont know if it gives you the overall confidence a Guide will give you due to the style of the questions. You move up through chemistry a little slower there. The review and dictionary are spectacular however and contain mountains of definitions and extra info.

I have retained the AceTheClep guide in the triumvirate. Working to see what the third piece will end up being. I have looked at MIT but once again it doesnt seem to Map to all of the Clep objectives with one particular course.

Times Education GCSE Chemistry has made a possible entry as a supplement or outright replacement to Free University.
but I will see how that goes when its time to take practice tests for Petersons and the Official Guide.
Anyways thanks for the help thus far and keep it coming if you have anything or something I might want to know about and

Linda all the best on Calculus, and Thanks Sunshine

Everyone else what you want is in stock and on the shelf. Put it in the basket take it home make it work and enjoy!

Good day to you all.

Well I m stressin, I'm worried. I am far more educated about chemical reactions, Gas laws and the Periodic table then I was 2 months ago; So, this is my last update before the test on Chemistry Test on Friday . The Chemistry test that had a 5 out of 128 Military pass rate ,the test of great importance to me finishing my degree this year. Here is what I used. For the Triumvirate. We will see on friday if it was REALLY good.

1)Chemistry Concepts and Problems 2nd Edition. Author Houk
If I pass this book will be the main reason

2)AceTheClep guide Chemistry
You have to have something that guides you over what the test will cover. Usually for most of us its the Instant Cert Cards and Official Study Guide. In absence of cards this guide should fit the bill.

3)Times Education Chemistry. General Chemistry
Virtual Labs Full course definition very interactive. You can use ALEKS in place of this course but I didnt. I thought ALEKS moved a little to slowly for my time frame. On friday I will find out if that was a good decision. Good day to you guys and I hope I can say I passed Friday night. or Thursday for you guys.

And of course Peterson Tests as the anchor. So Thats That.

Next Post: My Score
