'Duped': Students of UA's new online college can't get jobs, say school misled them o
#11
That's right, it's really up to the student to be diligent and do the appropriate research before making a final decision on how their educational journey is mapped from beginning to end. The additional item I usually add is a backup choice just in case something happens and the goal post is moved or changed altogether, have more than one backup if needed for multiple pathways...

I am not excusing the failure of graduate students to conduct due diligence on their intended profession and university, however, the USA has created a system that allows almost anyone to obtain a graduate degree. The broad availability of student loans allows mediocre students to attend marginal graduate schools without concern about the job market. Admissions officers, many of whom are nothing more than salesmen, are happy to perpetuate the unrealistic dreams of unqualified applicants because these admissions officers receive bonuses for each admitted student. The ocean of student loan debt is fueled by sales of packaged pools of student loans to institutional investors secured by the fact these loans are nondischargeable in bankruptcy. America's higher education system largely ignores student outcome focusing on how many student loans are generated instead. The net result, is a glut of poorly qualified 'doctors' who can't find a job that requires their terminal degree but must make payments on their six figure student loan debt.

Many people who work in admissions do not receive bonuses like you mention. If one is unqualified then they wouldn't be granted admission into a program. I wouldn't be accepted in med school because I don't have the science and math foundation that's required.

Poorly qualified doctors? Are you talking about medical doctors? Or those with doctorates? Master's degrees aren't terminal degrees in many fields. There's no need today to go into 6 figure student loan debt for a master's degree. Yes, many medical doctors have 6 figure debt because of the cost of med school and how little they're paid until they are doctors.
