First Fail (Money and Banking)
#1
Wellllll, I've had my first fail. 43 on Money and Banking when 48 was required. Alas.

Basically this came down to over-confidence. I had already passed Principles of Finance and was debating between M&B or Principles of Supervision for my last needed business electives. I went with M&B because I figured there'd be a lot of overlap with Principles of Finance (437) and accounting (my major). Nope. Very little overlap, really. Also, I'd be lying if I said that it had nothing to do with pride--M&B is upper level. Plus, with slimcustomer's recent review of it, I figured with my background, it wouldn't be that bad. I didn't want to look back and always wonder, "Could I have passed that?" So I got my answer and lost ~$125 in the process ($80 for the test, $20 proctor fee, ~$25 gas for the 45 minute drive).

Anyway, I would encourage others not to make my mistake. I did virtually nothing specific to this test to prepare for it and paid the price. This one requires specific preparation for mere mortals (slimcustomer's experience is an aberration, methinks).

The good news is that I failed the one I didn't have to have and passed the required one. Life goes on.

I am sorry about your test Sad I am also a mere mortal and need to study and prepare for each test. There is no way I could have passed it either (with limited study) if that is any consolation. I am ok with " slow and steady" -- the main thing is to finish! I see in your signature that you are working on degree number two-- great job!!

I don't know why I said "45 minute drive." It was 3.5 hours of driving. I got lost on the way there and ended up taking 2.5 hours to get there. Then it took an hour to get back when I didn't get lost (rather than the 45 minutes I had been told).

I think this is the key. I certainly rolled the dice taking Money and Banking by prepping with only the Macro Economics InstaCert flashcards instead of using the Money and Banking flashcards, but there was enough crossover to carry the day. I'm in the process of knocking out Accounting 1 and 2 and I don't see much if any crossover with Money and Banking.

My only fail was also due, in part, to overconfidence. It happens. I was humbled and have learned my lesson.

Hang in there and keep moving forward!

Hi Jake,

Just wanted to say I've always had time to read your posts and I massively appreciate you taking the time to post this feedback. There probably aren't enough people posting where they went wrong compared to where they went right. People like you, who take the time to help others learn from the good and bad experiences provide massive value. Like you said, it's another lesson learned; thank you for passing on the information and demonstrating a great attitude.

Chin up, big man Smile
