On the off chance a BSLS without a major may work see attached.
If you switch one of her other Aleks math for Aleks statistics she could use that toward her UL requirements.
Also, there are a number of DSST's worth credits in applied professionals at Excelsior, such as Substance Abuse or Business Law II.
I can't thank y'all enough for the help. In the morning I will take a look.

As far as cost, if she can finish in 1 year, there is a $75 application fee, $895 enrollment fee, $495 graduation fee. If she enrolls and goes into a second year, there is a $445 student service fee to cover that year of advising.
Also, $75/credit to transfer FEMA and exam costs for the UL credits, which TESC did not require. (We should look to see if NFA would be a better fit than FEMA.)
I have been following her progress. She is doing so well!
She is hard at work on Astronomy as we speak. I have a question about the FEMAs, as the thread covering their fees is 12+ pages long. Is there a $75 cost PER Fema or just for all 9 (or however many we need)?

I wasn't sure how to start a new thread so I just hit the quick reply button. I am trying to finish up 11 hours and have a schedule my counselor has approved for taking the Dantes exams. I thought there was supposed to be more information for each course, but I am only finding the flashcards. Is that it or is there more resources for the tests? I've got to put together a study plan to get through 4 tests by the end of July this year, one a month starting in April. Any suggestions as to what works best? I would appreciate any suggestions.

It is my understanding that the FEMA credits have to be transcribed for EC to accept them. The fee at FCC is $75 per FEMA (which are 1 credit each, right?) so the price adds up quickly. Here is a good thread that covers it:
When you are logged in, you can find it on the homepage of the forum.
Also, when you are in a section of the forum, you can choose "Post a new thread" under "Forum Tools". It will help us to see your questions better, too.

NFA credits can be added to the ACE transcript with the ALEKS credits. NFA credits are free, but there are only 3 available right now.
Ok. Great info. After I get the crazy Health care debate out of my head I'll be back on this degree plan. So many choices. Reminds me of the Chisholm trail.

alissaroot Wrote:You may have already been looking into communications courses to fulfill her major requirements, but since it's Saturday and I have all my homework done for the week, I decided to see if I could piece together the major requirements for a Communications major-General. If you wanted, she could focus in any of the five areas of specialization. Here's what I came up with:
I. Core Requirements (9 credits)
A. Introduction to Communication BYU Independent Study- COMMS 101 â Mass Communication and Society
B. Interpersonal Communications--LSU Independent Study CMST 2010 â Interpersonal Communication
C. Public Speaking and the Art of Persuasion--DSST Public Speaking
II.Intermediate & Upper Level Courses. All Three Courses Required (9 Credits)
A. Ethics and Communication BYU Independent Study
COMMS 300 â Media Ethics, Law, and Responsibility or COMMS 480 â Media Ethics and Moral Reasoning
B. Social Science Research Methods-?
C. A Fundamentals course from any of the five areas of specialization (Organizational Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, Strategic Communication, and/or Media Studies) BYU Independent Study- M COM 320 â Communication in Organizational Settings
III. Electives (12 credits from at least 3 different areas of specialization)
LSU Independent Study-CMST 2063 â Argumentation and Debate
DSST Technical Writing?
FEMA Effective Communication
OHIO U exam JOUR 311 History of American Journalism 2.68 UL
OHIO U exam JOUR 411 Communication Law 2UL
BYU Independent Study-COMMS 230 â Introduction to Advertising
It's not perfect, and I'm sure there are some cheaper options out there than BYU, but it's a start! And keep in mind that an adviser would be able to tell you if these courses actually meet the requirements or not, I'm just guessing. Good luck!
Alissa,
I plugged in all of your suggestions for her major and things are looking good. I know we'll have to check with EC to be sure but its sure good to see all the possibilities.
Thanks a million and so sorry for the delay.
