GRE Subject Tests
NAP Wrote:Welcome to the forum!

If you did not enroll at Excelsior by 9/1/2010, then check with Charter Oak State College and Empire State College. They may still be accepting GREs for credit. Please let us know what you find out.

Does anyone know about this? I was really interested in the English Lit GRE... and then after reading 12 pages got to this point :ack:

So, any more recent news??

NAP is correct, Mamasaphire. Any Excelsior students enrolling on or after 1 Sept 10 will not be eligible to apply GRE Subject Tests to their degree as credit. I was in exactly the same boat as you and ended up rushing through my enrollment to make the cut off date. In this respect, Excelsior student support was and is excellent; the change in policy itself is quite a sting, though.

Thanks irnbru! What I was wondering is if anyone has checked about the other two schools listed as options?

The GREs are still listed in Charter Oak's catalog for 2010-2011. Empire has always made people call to get the details. The word on the street about Empire for years now has been that while they do award credit they have brutal cut scores, meaning that even a very good score might not get you a lot of credits and testing completely out of a major is effectively impossible. Plus Empire has a residency requirement, which is one of the reasons you don't here the school mentioned in the same breath as the "Big 3".

Kaz, thank you for the explanation! I might have to look into Charter Oak...

Tomorrow is another big test day! I hope everyone's studying has been going well. Try to relax and knock it out of the park.

This is my last time to be cheering from the sidelines. I'll be taking it with the rest of you next time!

You're welcome! I think you are doing a great job comparing the Big 3 for your degree plan. They each have their own pros and cons that vary by the student's needs. I'm looking forward to your decision and watching your progress.
