Getting an additional Associates Degree advice please
#1
So, I'm enrolled in Dec for my BALS.  I played with the free Academic Review option on TESU's walking stick.  I can be awarded an AAS in Computer Studies with only a capstone.  Some folks on another thread suggested I start a new review to see what other Associate's degrees I could be awarded, namely an ASNSM.

Walking Stick says I need for a ASMSM:

1 more credit in Ethics
4 more credits Understanding Physical World
5 more credits in Computer Science

This is what I have completed:

American Government - 3 credits
HRM-215 Leadership - 1 credit
PHI-384 Ethics & Business Professional - 2 credits
PSY-401 Industrial/Orgznl Psychology - 3 credits
PSY-318 Sport and Exercise Psychology 3

Ethics shouldn't be an issue. Unless it is. As long as you have 60+ credits, I think you're good. If you've got an issue, you could do the FREE TEEX "Cyber Ethics" course. Only takes a day or two. It's not that bad, honest. It's mostly stuff you should know already (like don't pirate, copying content without attribution is bad, etc). https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/TE...ivalencies

Understanding the Physical & Natural World: Sophia biology & environmental science (super easy).

Computer science: Sophia Introduction to IT (also easy). TEEX Cyber 301 (again, free).

For $79 and an extra week or so of your time, you've got the ASNSM Computer Science.

Thank you for this info.  I just logged into TEEX and have already taken those TEEX courses TESU never added or never made it over to my transcript!

LS FSA114 0083 Death Investigation (Online) 09/24/2020 12/23/2020 40 Passed  Certificate
EC AWR169 0060 Cyber Incident Analysis and Response 12/03/2016 06/01/2017 10 Passed  Certificate

EC AWR175 0060 Information Security for Everyone 11/26/2016 05/25/2017 10.5 Passed

Is Cyber 301 on this list?  What class is that?

Are these being sent via Credly now??!!  TEEX says I was never awarded a cert, but got credit.  Wondered wtf happened?!

I've never taken a course through Sophia.  What are the classes like?  Is there a proctored final?  How fast did you get through them?  For example on SDC it took me 4-5 days to get through one course.  If I pick this degree, there's no capstone, right?

Is there an alternative to TEEX 301 for Cyber Security for Professionals?

OMG I don't know what is going on. These made it to my ACE transcript and have already been applied to my BALS:

TEEX-0252 12/09/2016 Cyber Security for Business Professionals
1 week (33 hours). The course is designed to provide requisite background theory and recommend best practices needed by business
managers to keep their offices running during cyber incidents of different types.
In the lower-division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 2 semester hours in introduction to
computer security.
Credit Recommendation:
TEEX-0250 12/03/2016 Cyber Security for Everyone
1 week (33 hours). The course is designed to provide the student with the fundamentals of computer crime issues from a legal perspective
and the proper techniques to approach the difficult ethical dilemmas that arise from using the modern Internet.

Do you think I still need 301 Cyber Security once all of this is sent over? Also, I'm having TEEX send everything directly to TESU due to this confusion. Thank you for all your help!

Cyber 101 is not an ethics course - it contains one but it is a CS course when taken as a group. Good news is that if TESU doesn't accept the group for whatever reason then hopefully they apply the ethics course to your evaluation if it accepts the separate courses.

There are a couple possible scenarios here now:

1. TESU accepts Cyber 101 as a group AND is fine with your current 2-credits ethics. This is 3 credits of CS classes, you just need either Cyber 301 or Sophia's Intro to IT. I think IT would be less hassle.
2. TESU does not accept Cyber 101 as a group but you gain an extra 2 ethics credits. This does not bode well for getting Cyber 301 accepted. Take Sophia IT + an easy CS course at SDC. SDC's courses don't duplicate with Sophia, so you're good there. Davar's Intro to Computers is another possible choice if you don't have/want to pay for a month of SDC.

In either case, you are still super close to being able to get an ASNSM Computer Science! This is great!

Thought the computer science associate doesn't have a capstone. I am working on it right now.

Rachel, thank you for all of this helpful info!  You're a gem!  I've decided to jump in and wrap this up ASAP.  I hope there won't be an issue changing my AAS to ASNSM in CS, as I've never started anything towards that yet.

Just to be clear I need:

Sophia's:
Environmental Science
Biology
Intro to IT
**Davar's Intro to Computers?

and hope TESU accepts all those other credits from TEEX?  If not, what's an easy, cheap computer ethics course and where can I take it?  I have to wait until I'm ten days into the Dec term before they'll review anymore of my credits.

Have things been resolved with the ACE transfer credits?  I've enrolled into Sophia's Environmental Science and see that it's ACE credited, but TESU is not listed as a transfer school.  I was planning on transferring these Sophia credits directly to TESU.  Is that the correct protocol?

I think I remember reading Sophia's testing is open book?  Is that true?  Is there proctoring?

THANK YOU for all your help!!

The absolute cheapest ethics class would be Sophia's. But it's not easy and (IMO) it requires their Greek Philosophers first to make sense of everything. But since Sophia is, indeed, open book, it might be easier than other possible ethics options. There is no proctoring with Sophia; there is simply biometrics to confirm your identity.

To recap/clarify what needs to be done:

Ethics:
1. TESU may well not care that you are 1 credit under the requirement. Assuming your ethics is from The Institutes, they usually put in an exception. If you have the ASNSM added to your evaluation (rather than just a what-if), this is probably what will happen. Definitely put in the request to have this added ASAP because you are so close to completion!
2. TESU insists that you need an Ethics credit and does not accept Cyber 101 but you manage to somehow get them to accept Cyber Ethics. Good.
3. TESU insists that you need another Ethics credit and they've either accepted Cyber 101 (making you ineligible for the separate Cyber Ethics credit) or they are stubborn and won't accept TEEX at all for some reason. Choose Sophia ethics, the SDC course "Philosophy 103: Ethics - Theory & Practice", or Davar's Business Ethics.

Understanding the Physical World:
Take Sophia's Environmental Science and also Human Biology. Easy.

CS credits:
Sophia's Intro to IT covers 3 of the 5 needed credits. From there:
1. Cyber 101, if accepted whole, will grant you 4 more credits.
2. Cyber 301, if accepted whole, should also grant you 3 more credits.
3. Cyber 201, in whole or in parts, might grant you 3 more CS credits. These are cybersecurity credits, though, and those don't usually count as CS credits.
4. If NONE of the TEEX courses are accepted as CS credits, Davar's Introduction to Computers should satisfy the requirements. Other possibilities, from SDC, include: "Business 109: Intro to Computing", "Computer Science 103: Computer Concepts & Applications", "Business 104: Information Systems and Computer Applications".

So, yes, you definitely NEED Sophia's Environmental Science, Human Biology, and Introduction to IT. You might need Greek Philosophers/Ethics. And the rest depends on what TESU does about TEEX.

TESU does not accept Sophia credits straight from Sophia or Parchment. You need to send them through ACE/Acclaim. Since you are doing these courses now, there should be no issues getting the courses added to your Acclaim profile (the issue with Sophia is only for those of us who completed Sophia courses before November). The process for adding badges should be easy and automatic.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!  Just one more question - does TESU accept TEEX credits directly from TEEX or only through Accliam?  My ACE transcript from TEEX looks completely different than what's displayed on my TEEX completed courses.  I'm very confused how that happened.
