Six Figures in Debt for a Master's Degree
#1
I read "Inside Higher Ed" often after I skip over the trash they generally write about.  In some ways, Higher Ed is a sad unprofessional profession.

This article is good.  My former boss was a USC social worker deep in dept and still paying off debt to age 60.  Formal education (degrees) and being smart are not the same thing!

There are many cheap, podunk state colleges that offer MSW programs. If you know that you're only going to be making $50k per year, then you shouldn't be spending a lot of money on your master's degree. I don't feel sorry for these people because they're college-educated and usually over the age of 25 by the time they pursue a master's degree.

Many of these people are taking out private loans to supplement their federal financial aid, so credit checks are not stopping them.
