Hi All, just took the Here's to Your Health test. I read my college network notes & went over the IC info once and passed with 66 in about 35 minutes. As others have said this is a lot of common sense, with a few terms and data you should understand.
The following is what I remember the questions asking:
General Health - Heath wellness is the primary responsibility of the individual. Understand fitness, resting heart rate, how should a new college student whose gained 20 pounds in a semester progress to fitness. Know the definition of isometric, restictive & isokinetic exercises. 1 lb = approx 3500 cal. Which nutriet has more cal per gram: protein, fat or carbs?
Know about genetic theory of programmed aging, free radical theory & wear and tear theory. Know the stages of death and dying i.e. denial, anger, bargaining, depression etc., Know about social death and secularization of the aging.
Know about hospice care, that lung cancer is the leading cause of death by a cancer & most preventable. Know about breast cancer, and that skin cancer is a melanoma. Know the difference between benign & malignant.
Alcoholism: Know about binge drinking, what percentage of death is caused by drunk driving. What is tolerance? What are the signs & symptoms of fetal alcohol syndrome?
Smoking: know about nicotine, carbon monoxide and its ill effects.
What are psychoactive drugs, hallucinogens & their effect? Which drugs can you get over the counter i.e. sedative, pain medicine, antifungals. Know that Opiates are codeine, heroine, opium, methodone & that mescaline is a hallucinogen.
Know about congestive heart failure, stroke, hypertension, diabetes I (insulin dependant and usually is dx before age thirty). Diabetes type II (adult onset) not always insulin dependant. What is a somewhat hypertensive bp? 140/90. Know what an angioplasty does.
Infections: know about memory & suppressor T cells, immunizations, the safest sex (abstinence). Know what a pathogen is. Know the different stages of infections, i.e. infection, incubation, symptoms etc. The testes produce sperm. Male sexual dysfunction i.e. impotence, pre & retarded ejaculation. Know estrogen & progesterone are female hormones, know that Human chorionic gonatotrophin (HCG) levels detected are a way to confirm pregnancy.
STDs: which are bacterial or viral. Know the treatment for Syphilis & Gonorrhea.
Know the leading cause of accidental death in the home. Know about HMOs & medicare.
There was a question about waste management. A question about what is important in having a good relationship.
There's more, but I just went blank. Hope this helps though, Luv.
