How does SL "free course" work?
#1
On the SL site there is an icon that say "free course". Has anyone here tried this? If so, how does it work?

You fill a form out, but how long before they call or email you with details?

Is it for new students, 1st time use only?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have not tried the free course but have found SL to be extremely prompt and easy to deal with. I would assume that it is an offer to let you try the product as a new student but you can always ask them. It is free so try it out and let us know Smile

The course is not free. They send you a password to use to try the course, but you have to sign up for the course to complete it. I have used straighterline on the $99.00 per month and was very pleased. I was able to complete both my courses within one month. I strongly recommend using Ft. Hays as their partner college (only $30.00 to enroll), as soon as you complete the course through straighterline, they send your grade to Ft. Hays and Ft. Hays will send a transcript to the college you designate. In all I completed English I and Algebra I within three weeks and had it transcribed at my local community college within four weeks. Not a bad deal for $99.00.

Will TESC accept the Fort Hayes credits? Sounds like a sweet deal.

Thanks to all for responding.

I called them as well since I posted the question late night.

The "free course" is simply access to see how the courses are set up. But, not to take the course for "free of charge" or a "trial version" or anything.

I was looking at English comp. II, so I called them and then called Fort Hayes.

Here's the latest news: Fort Hayes says they are not even considering that course for approval at this time. She said "IF" it were going to be considered in the future, it would be a least a few months from now. But, apparently it's not even on the radar for right now.

If anyone finds a place that is transcribing English Comp. II, pls. post so we will all know.

Thanks,

I have responded to this question on more than one occasion on this forum. I knew that none of the partner colleges are accepting English II from SL because I tried to go that route. I ended up testing out with a departmental test at my local college. Others have suggested Penn Foster as an alternative if you are enrolled in one of the big 3 (since they are ACE). Other than that I don't know where you can get SL transcribed from another college since, as far as I know, they aren't doing that. Oh well, maybe Potomac (at 3 hours for $1,350.00), but first you have to take three of their courses at that amount and three of the SL courses. Not my way to get English 102 thank you. Best of luck.
