Passed the Biz Law Clep today, which was my last requirement for my BSBA at TESC. YESSSSSS!!!! Finally got the monkey off my back! I want to thank everyone on the forum many of you have helped me both directly and indirectly. This was about 9 years in the making, after dropping out of college and joining the military I said I would never do college again. For a little more than 3 years I had 75 credits just sitting there. I had considered going back after I got out with the GI Bill. My boss mentioned to me one day that he had taken classes at TESC and encouraged me to take some to improve my evaluation report. I surfed the web about TESC and online schools and was considering taking some courses like a intro to business or management to help me grow as a leader in the army and outside the military. I was a computer science major previously and after looking at TESC degrees I came across the BSBA in Computer Information Systems. Looked at the requirements and saw I had basically already completed the computer concentration so I applied to TESC under the military program.
Before I looked into online schools I was under the assumption that 4 year colleges had a 60 credit residency and would not accept Ds as transferred credits. I really didnât know how many credits I would get but I was initially only concerned about taking one or two courses not graduating. So I sent my transcripts also found out that the army has a transcript that schools give credit for. Also during my research of online schools I came across CLEP and DSST exams, which I never knew existed. So when I got my eval they gave me 76 credits!! They transferred in 2 Ds and even gave me 9 credits from the army. A few courses didnt fit the degree plan. Also it was frustrating about that they consider CIS courses makes no sense Computer Organization & Assembly Language(material very similar as CIS Clep) and Algorithm Implementation(which was like the CS capstone) both went under Gen Ed. so I owed 2 CIS courses which ended up being PF Systems Analysis and DSST MIS.
After I got the eval and found this site and IC I thought I could finish the degree in 2 years. I started my first online course in Sept 2010 which was intro to marketing. I started with marketing first because I was extremely nervous about taking a college course because it had been so long and with being active duty I wanted to ease into everything. With the discipline I had gained from the army and knowing if I failed I would have to pay over $700 I got an A. The format for TESC is perfect for military and the mentors are great. I had to go a military school during the time for 2 weeks (which was during the mid-term week) and the mentor totally understood and didnt have any problem with me taking it when I got back. One thing I disliked about TESC courses were the mid-terms because in the military program the proctor requirements required the proctor to be an military officer from another unit this made scheduling to take the exam alittle bit harder as both of us to to be free from work. Also TESC mid-terms have tough MC questions in my opinion.
During the course intros I met other military members and saw some were taking 2 and 3 courses at a time so I decided to bump it up and took 2 at a time offsetting start times so midterms weren't during the same week. After two courses I was on a roll and starting testing out. From the beginning of Sept. to today I completed 46 credits by TESC courses, Str8rline, Penn Foster, CLEPs and DSST exams. PF Systems Analysis only transfers as 2 credits so I became 1 credit short for a business elective so I took Str8rline COst Acct. so I will end with graduating with 122 credits.
Hardest exam was principals of management and the hardest course was Biz Policy. I thought I was going to ace the management clep, during the exam I really didnt think I was going to pass, IC and petersons will barely get you by. Prolly need the REA book the REA biz law book gets all my credit for the pass and the specific feedback forum. MIS was the easiest even though the petersons made me nervous because I was barely cracking 50s. For people looking to get a BSBA stay away from the Biz Policy course wayyy to much work. Take the TECEP if you can the course has case studies that have to be extremely long and are graded very harsh.
Im posting all of this to let people know that its not too late to go back to school and finish. Many soldiers and civilians dropped out of school for whatever reason with nothing to show for it. You can change that!! After you pass your first clep youâll be addicted and studying will get easier. The best part of the testing is right before you get to see your school at the report your score screen the rush is awesome!!
Now I guess I just got to play the waiting game because the next graduation isnât until Sept. For people who have graduated the next graduation deadline is July 1st and the only outstanding transcript is the Biz Law clep. Should I wait until TESC receives the transcript or just apply for graduation now?
