Hi everyone! I need to take a Thomas Edison Psychology of Personality Exam and although I understand that IC does not have flashcards for it, I was wondering if anyone on this forum took this test or has any feedback, tips or advice on it. Specifically, I'm looking for which materials to study from. They give a list of 4 textbooks but I obviously can not go through all of them. Thank you so much in advance.

Unfortunately, I do not have info about that particular test. Although I did take the TECEP Psychology of Women. I did a search on the net and found a college course syllabus on it. I used it to do individual searches on the topics that the syballus had as covered in the course. Maybe this webpage will have a link to a useful syllabus: Personality Psychology Courses

Thank you LuBee and mattie for your replies. LuBee, how much time did you need to be properly prepared for your Psych of Women test and how did you find the test itself in comparison to Cleps and Dantes? ( I don't think you took any Excelsior's, right?) Thanks again.

I took about two weeks to internalize the info. Part of that time was looking up the info that was listed in the syllabus that I found on the net. There was a small practice test on the TESC website and I did fine on it so I didn't feel very intimidated even though I didn't have IC on the topic. (I had already studied and passed a few CLEPS related to Psychology.)
Anyway, I only needed to get 60 of the 100 questions right to pass. Which is similar to what you would need to pass a CLEP (although CLEP scoring is mysterious). Have you checked out the TECEP practice test for Psychology of Personality? Here is the link: http://www.tesc.edu/catalog/tecep_desc/PSY-352.pdf It gives a good breakdown of the topics covered on the test. The TECEP has only four answer choices. That improves your odds. It is timed so just like a CLEP you need to manage your time.
All in all, I would say the the topic and your familiarity with it will determine its difficulty, but it was certainly no harder than any CLEP I've taken on Psychology.
(I have not taken any Excelsior tests, only TECEP, CLEP and DSST.)

I really appreciate your response and the experience you bring to the table. For some reason, I am feeling intimidated by this test, although I do have a background in psychology (that's what I'm majoring in) and I probably have taken a lot harder tests. I think it's probably due to this being the first test of its kind that I'm taking (the fear of the unknown) and no IC to fall back on and complement my studying. I did print the study guide off Thomas Edison's site but did not do especially well on their sample questions. The book I'm studying from is very comprehensive. I don't know how thoroughly I should be studying it. In any case, your feedback was reassuring and helpful. I hope I do okay on it. One more question: Does it show up on your transcripts as a letter grade or as a pass or fail? And if it's a grade, how do they score that? What mark is considered an A, B etc.? Thanks so much again for your time and help.

I felt scared when I had to take the TECEP Art History 2 because I had to pass it for my degree or else spend a lot more time doing the course instead. When I studied for it I used the TESC outline as a guide to what topics that I should place emphasis on.
For the TECEPs I believe it is pass/fail. Check your pm.

I took this test today. It was on paper, so I don't know my score yet. I am pretty nervous about it though. I thought it was more difficult than the practice test on the TESC website. A lot of questions on theories from psychologists that I have never hurd of (e.g. Hull, Fromm, Capell). Each of them were on the bibliography, but I couldn't find much on them. Quite a bit of hypotheticals also. I needed 55 out of 100 and I knew 37 of them for sure, so hopefully I narrowed down enough to get 18 more correct. I would recommend buying one of the books on the list off of the website. I just used a generic psychology book with a chapter on personality. Good luck
Chuck

Like all TECEPs, the outline of the test is listed on their website. Like I said in an earlier posts, know the theories and be able to identify them (e.g. drive reduction theory). Know classical and operant conditioning (I don't think I have taken a psychology test yet that doesn't mention these). Know the difference between a fixed and variable ratio or interval. Be able to identify different types of reliability (e.g. split half, test retest) as well as validity. This is a very doable test, especially if you have a strong psych. background.
