From what I've heard (read: not a scientific survey

), very few schools require the essay. Still, it is a good idea to check. Also, scheduling will often take a bit longer if you need the essay. Also, the essay is actually graded by the school who requires it (not by anyone with CollegeBoard)

Also, besides Marketing, what other CLEP tests would you all suggest if I was looking to possibly test out of one per week. Do you think that is a reasonable goal? I know everyone's different, but hearing anyone's experience is helpful. What other tests did you find fairly straight forward?

You should go over to freeclepprep.com and run through their guide on all the Clep and dsst exams, pretty accurate and will give you a jump on what to study.

Great advice from everyone

As far as other easier tests go, check out
Clep Difficulty List - Free-Clep-Prep.com and
DSST Difficulty List - Free-Clep-Prep.com like Rebel suggested. Personally, these are the easiest CLEPs I have taken:
Principles of Management
Principles of Marketing
Introductory Psychology
Introductory Sociology
Analyzing & Interpreting Literature
Social Sciences and History
College Math
...and the easiest DSSTs:
Principles of Supervision
Technical Writing
Introduction to Computing
Other test may require more study time than a week, but are definitely doable!

Great advice here, The Petersons test for A&I Lit isn't really helpful if you don't have a poetry background (at least for me) so source the other books from REA and focus on the exam specific feedback and then do some of the petersons test once you've grasped it a bit. The College Board book any year has a section on it as far as I can remember you'll also find that in many libraries. Take your time, divide your summer in half, book the first exam four to six weeks from now and step by step work through the flashcards and the REA material. Remember if you are successful and you will be that you'll be saving $1,000 of dollars by getting these exams under your belt.
Don't forget that gaining college credit by taking exams is one of the reason's we're here. That's mainly possible through the flashcards made available by the owner of this forum :

Make sure you pay close attention to Boise State's listing of the DSST exams they accept -- only 5 unless their web listing is not accurate. It is probably better to focus on the CLEP exams. Also, I see a note at the bottom of the acceptable CLEP exams (**cannot be used to fulfill ENGL 101-102 requirement), though there are no exams with this marking. I would suggest checking with the registrar's office to see if Analyzing & Interpreting Lit is the one that is to have this marking.

You might want to reconcile what is suggested here with your college's policy on acceptance of any exam. Each university is different.
Also, consider the source when someone says something is easy or hard. Money and Banking is considered a hard exam. While I won't say it was easy, it wasn't as hard for me as I expected. Maybe my mind does better with economic theory than someone else's mind.
Also, you might want to do a search of the forum before asking questions. Not because folks here aren't eager to help, they are. If, however, a question was answered before by someone who gave a PERFECT answer, and the person is no longer posting, or is burrowing down to study and isn't reviewing the forum, you could miss good info. There's one poster - an IT type - who is brilliant, and is going for his doctorate. (Think Doogie Howser, but smarter. I think he went from pre-K to working on his doctorate in 2.5 months.) He isn't posting as frequently these days, but a search would unearth his advice.
Welcome, and good luck.
