Pierpont, PMP, and PHR Questions

I may be applying soon for the BABA/M&L at UMPI and am curious how many credits the PMP and PHR certifications transfer as and which classes they count towards. I have been looking all over for this information and can't find it. Thank you!

My understanding from a post I did find here is that PHR will count towards fulfilling HR Management but only counts as 2cr. (BUS321)

Basically, If you have any certs and/or experience in addition to the cert, it's best to try and get credit for it, I would recommend sending anything to the institution to see if it can be evaluated and credit granted for the previous learning... Always a good idea just in case you get credit for something you thought you wouldn't, I would chance it to be on the safe side, worse comes to worse, they'll just say no, you can still transfer in a max of the credits using other options...

I only learned of this degree option a few days ago thanks to this amazing site! I am fairly certain I have all the credits needed for the Pierpont BOG AAS degree and want to move fast so I can transfer elsewhere for a Bachelors degree (likely WGU or UMPI). However apparently I've missed the Fall registration (Dec graduation) by six days. At this point I have to go through the Pierpont graduation process in Spring and wait until May in order to obtain the degree. This is my understanding, let me know if I'm off base. I was hoping to start on my Bachelors degree ASAP, and while there may be a few extra courses I can knock out via Sophia, etc. I certainly don't want to wait six months until I can enroll elsewhere. Is anyone aware of a program just like Pierpont's BOG option that can help me meet my goal?  Thank you!

You don't have to wait to graduate from Pierpont in order to start your bachelor's at UMPI or elsewhere

Are you trying to block transfer the Pierpont degree to WGU in order to avoid specific courses for which you don't have direct transfers? I think I could have done that and saved myself a few courses, but I completed them all in the first couple weeks at WGU, along with multiple certifications, so it wasn't really worth it to wait. UMPI doesn't do block transfers, so the only difference would be the ability to complete the BAS degree.

However, as mentioned by jch, you can still go for the Pierpont AAS degree and start on a bachelor's degree immediately if you're not worried about transferring the AAS. Which degrees are you interested in? Have you applied to both schools?

I'll just answer your question, there are many WV colleges that offer the same BOG AAS as Pierpont and will do the trick, the only thing is, you don't need to bother with anything, you can continue with your UMPI BABA M&L as you're not affected by the graduation date for your AAS.

Thank you all for your responses. Before transferring anywhere for my Bachelors, I need to secure my Associates in order to ensure I meet all the gen ed requirements. If I transfer with what I have now w/o the AA, I'll still need to take additional classes which I'm trying to avoid. Whereas if I can get an Associates beforehand, I won't. Pierpont seems much more lenient on what they accept compared to others so I was curious if there were other schools with the same requirements but a timeline that allows me to officially obtain the Associates earlier than May so I can get started sooner. I will keep researching.

FWIW - I'm in my late 40s, have had a successful career in HR (in Tech) and am looking to get my Bachelors to check the box to show I have one so I'm interested in doing this a quickly as possible and will likely keep to an HR or Business focus given my experience and existing PHR/PMP certifications. I really appreciate all the support on this forum!

Even with your Associates UMPI will require you to meet their general education requirements if you haven't within your Associates degree. It doesn't matter if you start now or wait bc if there is a course that they require thats unfulfilled in your Associates degree you will still have to take it.I am not sure how WGU works.

That's right, the same goes with many institutions, you can have an associates that doesn't have all the requirements for a block transfer, it'll transfer in, you'll get the 60 block credits, but you still need to make up whatever general education and major, electives, and any other outstanding requirements there are left to complete the bachelors. In the case of UMPI, you're doing 40 GEC credits, the Pierpont degree has 15 general education and the rest can be all electives...

That means, you only have UMPI 15 GEC and 45 electives (in the case of the BAS or BLS), if you're doing a BA, or BABA, you'll have to make up the remaining credits anyways... Don't put Pierpont into the equation, just like what I tell people when they want a COSC/TESU/UMPI associates degree, you add it to your program and forget it, the requirements are complete for the associates when you have completed the bachelors. Don't complicate things when it's easy...
