Price differences in these course providers?
#1
Good afternoon everyone, I would love it if someone could summarize the price plans of these course providers, as most of you know them by heart. I need to figure out the cheapest provider for most of my TESU BSBA area of study courses.

From the websites it seems that Saylor is free with the exception of the proctor fee, and Study.com is (?) per month but you're allowed only a certain number of credits within that month. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I know the price plan of Straighterline already as I'm currently using it, but am I only allowed a certain number of credits per month with them as well?

I get overwhelmed and mixed up quite easily with this stuff, so I just need a single post where I can see all the prices in one place.

Study.com is $200/month and you're allowed two for-credit exams in a month, you can add additional exams for $70 each during the month
Saylor is $25 for proctoring
OnlineDegree.com is $9 for proctoring
Sophia is generally $329 per course
ed4credit is generally $195
Davar starts at $70, plus $25 or $15 for proctoring depending on which proctor you choose.
ALEKS is $20 a month

I'm not sure what providers you're looking for so those are just the first few that came to mind.

Essentially:
-saylor is a flat $25 per course(if you pass the test first time)
-study com is $200 per month for 2 proctored finals. So 2 classes per month for $100 per class(if you finish at a rate of 1 class every 2 weeks & pass your final on the first try) you can add an extra proctored final in a month for $70. So you could finish 3 in a month for $90/course or 4 for $85/course.
-StraighterLine doesn't limit how many you do per month.

Thank you so much guys, you're all amazing.

Why do you think Saylor isn't recommended more often? It seems as though Study.com dominates most of the degree plans I look at on here. Is it because they have more courses available or is the interface more preferred?
ALEKS(9): College Algebra, Trig, Intro to Statistics
Sophia(42): Intro to Sociology, Human Biology, Environmental Science, Ancient Greek Philosophers, Developing Effective Teams, Essentials of Managing Conflict, Art History I, Approaches to Studying Religions, History I, History II, Introduction to Psychology, Visual Communications, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Intro to Information Technology, Student Success

Some people have had bad experiences with some Saylor courses and exams being broken/wrong. I haven't done any Saylor courses yet, though. For a while(but no longer) SDC had a free 3 month program so a lot of people took advantage of that. SDC does offer the most courses of all others; last I checked they had 177 courses approved by ace and/or NCCRS. It looks like they are still adding(or at least intending to) at a fairly steady rate. I personally found SDC to be pretty straightforward and simple as far as course requirements and completion. SDC also has the advantage of overlapping material meaning if you do a second course in a similar subject, part of it may already be completed by the previous course. That plus placement tests and the overall process make it fairly easy to complete courses through SDC fairly quickly if you have prior knowledge.

With Saylor, you get what you pay for. Sometimes, the courses are terrible. Some are decent. But your grade is 100% based on a test, and some people don't like that as much as taking a course.

A lot of the course providers don't have UL (or many UL) courses, and that is one of the reasons Study.com is popular on here. Davar is also an option if you need UL Business courses.

One thing to keep in mind with some of the more expensive providers like Sophia, Ed4Credit, Pearson/Propero - you have a lot more time to take a course. Most are somewhere in the 3-4 month range. So, if you think you may want to take a course that's going to take longer than a month, then Study.com and SL are not good options for that.

There are SO many options, for almost every kind of person - good at testing (Saylor, CLEP, DSST), not good at testing (SL, Study.com, Ed4Credit, Sophia), someone who wants their grade to be based on quizzes and tests only (SL, LL Study.com, E4C), someone who wants their grade to be based on those plus a paper/project (UL Study.com), someone who likes video-based courses (Study.com, OnlineDegree.com, Sophia), someone who hates videos (Study.com using transcripts, SL).

On the plus side for Saylor, you can view the entire course, take the practice and Saylor credit finals all for free. You only have to pay when it's time to take the final for college credit. If you don't like the course quality, you can just bail on it or use it to study for a CLEP or TECEP.

Ancient Greek Philosophers is $149 with Sophia!  Plus, if you register for 3 courses, you can use the HALFOFF promo code (be sure to create your account and sign in at http://www.sophia.org).  Good luck!!!!!
