I was wondering if any of you who had already taken this Dantes could shed any light on the difficulty of the test? It seems somewhat basic but would hate to take it for granted or underestimate it. This will be my first Dantes test and I was also wondering how many questions were on it and what score was required to pass/ how many questions is it permissible to miss and pass. Thanks!

It is regarded as one of the easiest tests. Like other tests that is somewhat dependent on prior knowledge or studying completed but if you look over the material I'd say go for it as soon as you feel comfortable. The best tool on this site is to search in the upper right corner and see what others have said, the info you asked for and some links for this test are below. The test took me about 40 minutes to do and I received the score seen below in my signature. If you do well you should continue with CLEP Management due to the overlap. If you are looking for other easy tests they will depend on your background (or you can study). Most people do well with CLEP Analyze and Interpret Literature (6 credits) and if you are good with computers a little review can lead to a pretty easy test of DSST Intro to Computing or CLEP Info Systems & Business Apps. I actually took this test 7th behind more complicated ones since this test didn't help with my degree. Good luck and let us know how you do.

DSST - Supervision
Passing Score - 400 (Scaled) out of 500 total.
Number of Questions - 100 or less depending on test form (2 hour limit on all DSST tests)
Percent to Pass - Since this is a refreshed exam (passing score of 400) it has a published passing percent of 36-41% depending on the form given. Since you are new to this note that only tests with a passing score of 400 have percentages to pass, all other DSST tests and all CLEP tests are scored in a more complicated way (see the scoring link below).

i took it on Friday after reading Official DSST guide for only a few hours. I did not recognize most questions, however I was able to rationalize my way to a 433 score.

I have never before taken a DSST (or CLEP) test however I wish for this test to be my first. I am signed up for IC and will be using that. Do you have any other pointers for me?

How is the test setup, multiple choice, short answer, fill in the blank?

With the exception of tests with essays, all tests are multiple choice. CLEP tests have five choices (A-E) and DSST tests have four choices (A-D). Based on it being multiple choice and not deducting points for wrong answers (other than not giving you the point to be right) if you are unsure then pick the best answer and you may the get the point. Both tests also have a "mark question for later" feature so if you are unsure then mark it and at the end you can can go back and look again. Once you feel ready go for it and let us know how it goes.

Thank you. Would you be willing to explain the exam scoring a bit further. I have read the link and it states that I will need roughly a 36-41% to pass, however what confuses me is the 400 out of 500 scenario that you mentioned.

The scoring is scaled as seen in the link I gave you. If you needed 36% to pass then 36% would be 400. If you get more than 36% then you will get an increase in the score up to 100% being equal to 500 points. That would mean you would get a jump of one-two points for every question which was correct (once above passing). The link that BGSU_Alum_86 mentions is the one I gave in my original response. 400 is passing no matter which one of these "refreshed" exams you complete (at most schools). Get to that number and you get your credits.

Verify that your college accepts the DSST exam to fulfill the specific requirement needed and what the passing score is. Someone recently posted that their school required a score higher than 400.

I apologize if I am being difficult with this but I am just not able to follow the logic behind it just yet. Here is what I understand. I need between a 36 - 41% to pass depending on what the version of the test I receive. Regardless of the percent a passing score is a 400 (unless the school states something higher). Yet how is it that the 400 is created? 400/500 is 80%, which is not anywhere near 36-41%. Or the other tests which require a much higher percent score, how can they be using the 400?

Other question: for example say I do receive 100 questions and I need 37% to pass. I will need 37 questions answered correct to receive a 400, correct? I am just finding this system a bit awkward.
