For those that are attending or have graduated from the Master's program at CCU, I was wondering if you could answer a few questions about it for me, as I am seriously considering taking courses through them. I would like to take the Masters in Business Administration, and am looking to start this time next year. They are relatively inexpensive as opposed to other universities, which is a pretty big consideration for me.
Are the exams difficult to pass?
Who do you use for a proctor? Does it have to be an employer or can it be a friend?
From the information I have read, they are nationally accredited, but does your employer or other colleagues recognize this university as being somewhat reputable or have they even heard of them at all?
About how fast can I finish if I take the 13 course route? Can it be completed in 6 months, or is that too aggressive of a goal?
Thanks for any info you can throw me!

Who do you use for a proctor? Does it have to be an employer or can it be a friend? It basically has to be someone other than a relative. All that person does is receive the test and give it to you. You take it and either mail it in or submit it online.
From the information I have read, they are nationally accredited, but does your employer or other colleagues recognize this university as being somewhat reputable or have they even heard of them at all? If you go to the website California Coast University - Recognition of the University's Degrees You'll find MANY companies that send their employees to this school for their Masters, as well as recognize the diploma. I'm currently attending and the military is paying for most of it; they don't do that unless its a recognized program.
About how fast can I finish if I take the 13 course route? Can it be completed in 6 months, or is that too aggressive of a goal? Without knowing you or your abilities, this is impossible to answer. I know that's the goal I've set for myself. There are others who have done it faster but it's not the norm. Even if you finish it in three months, the school will not award you the degree until the nine month mark. You'll find out more about this on their website California Coast University - California Coast University
Thanks for any info you can throw me! No problem, that's what we're here for, I'm sure Shoto will fill in anything I may have missed . Lee

Thank you so much, Lee. You definitely did help to answer my questions. I had decided that I would get my Masters through UOP, but it costs twice as much as CCU. I got interested in this university thanks to you and Shoto!
Geez, for the $20 I pay per month, I sure have reaped WAY more from IC both financially and scholastically.

I know some from this site have continued their education through CCU, but from everything I read they are not accredited. I know their business programs are not accredited by the organization that matters, which is the AACSB. I, for one, would not pursue an advanced degree in business if the institution is not accredited by the AACSB. And they are not accredited by the regional authority, Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
This does not mean you could not gain a wonderful education. As we all know on this forum, you get out of learning what you put in!!

The great debate over RA vs. NA is old, tired, and really lacks any genuine redeeming qualities and your comments are not welcome. I would suggest that you do your reading again regarding accreditation and such before lashing out at any school. I say this as both a proud CCU grad and proud IC-Forums moderator.

I'm not sure exactly why I'm doing this, but I feel the need to jump to the defense of blueyzz28.
ShotoJuku, I respect your opinion. I honestly do. This is as both a moderator and (more importantly) a long time member of the forums. I'm not knocking CCU. I've looked at it, and I have decided that its not for me. It does seem like a good college. They seem to take what they do seriously. Make this clear, I am not calling them a diploma mill. I believe it is a legitmate means to a higher education. That being said...
I care about regional accreditation. I understand the difference between national and regional. I understand that CCU is also acknowledge by the state of California. They have recognition from the Council for Higher Education (CHEA) and the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC). They are extremely affordable compared to most grad schools. I understand that California Coast University is a GREAT option for anyone looking for an affordable option to grad school. After all this, I still care a whole lot about regional accreditation. I also care about your (ShotoJuku) opinion on these matters.
I am going to Duquesne University for an M.S. in Leadership & Business Ethics starting this October. I am proud of this. I also am extremely thankful to this forum for making it possible.
I just think that blueyzz28 was being polite and civil. He was either asking a question or making a statement, but either way he was being respectful about it (as opposed to being rude). Maybe the debate between N.A. and R.A. has long been discussed to death. Maybe it doesn't really matter what school you go to so long as you learn something. Maybe he didn't have that harsh of a response coming his way either.
Respectfully,
Old Rusty Pipe

I've seen quite a bit of outdated info on the web about CCU. They are currently nationally accredited by the DETC, which is an agency legally approved by the US Dept of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to grant postsecondary degrees. CCU is legally accredited and their degrees are legitimate. However, they are not regionally nor AACSB accredited, which might be a concern to some depending on their intended application for a business degree. As with any school, "mileage may vary!"
Personally, I work in a Fortune 100 company that reimburses tuition for CCU degrees because of their national accreditation. A degree is more of a checkmark in this company, and experience is king at the executive level. So in my case, regional or AACSB accreditation wouldn't mean much to them. But again, "mileage may vary." If I were trying to land a job right out of college in a more competitive market, I might need those things.

Thanks Rusty,
I did not bash any school. In the original post, the writer stated he planned on pursuing a Master's in Business. I am simply stating that CCU is not accredited by the AACSB. To me this is important. It may not be to others and that is their choice. As I said in my post, you get out of education what you put in! Whether you go to Harvard Business or CCU.
I have tried to help individuals on this site, as this community has helped me. I find it unfortunate that if someone has a contrary opinion or a different view they are unwelcome on the site. The response by Shoto does not inspire a "family-friendly atmosphere."
Good luck to everyone, as I think I will simply study for my future exams and no longer used the message boards so that I may avoid being berated for stating my own opinions and trying to give additional points of view.

The reason I love this forum is because you all provide straight-up useful information about exam-taking, degree plans, and other (how do I say it?)... information that I NEED to know to reach my goal of getting my degree. I have really come to know some of you as my mentors. You have helped me to decide which exams to take, and in what order. You have helped me pass many of my exams, not only with the flashcards but with feedback. I am extremely grateful.
That being said, I just think that the "RA vs. NA" , or the all-to-familiar, "Are the Big 3 schools diploma mills?" type of discussions belong in another place.
... maybe in the "Off-Topic" category of this forum. They are great discussions, but I would hate to see the waters at Instantcert's forums get all muddied up like they are at degreeinfo.com's distance learning forums.
Take a look at their forum... these disagreements go on everyday over there. Nobody gets anywhere. It's like politics and religion. Rabbit trails everywhere. No focus!!!
I love this forum because you all seriously care about helping others like me, by providing information that will help us reach our goals more effectively and efficiently. I wouldn't be here if it were not for the collective vision and culture that you all share. You all hold this forum to a higher standard because you care about it and about its impact on students. I would encourage you to keep that committment and not lose sight of the reason why we gather here. This RA vs NA argument belongs somewhere else. Don't you think?
... just a respectful, humble, opinion from a plain-ol' peer who appreciates the opinions you all give. ... and has a tendency to stick his foot in his mouth.
Before you pounce on me... know that my intentions are good and respectful. I will not argue here (for the reasons above). Save it for a PM.
