On balance, I found the ECE's much harder. They are longer and more specific. See any of the ECE links in my sig for more details.

ECEs were harder for me. I found out later on that you need the correct textbook, or you will be barking up the wrong tree. The tests seem to mimic the textbook author's slant on things.

If you pay for, and take the ECE practice exams, and skim the correct book, you can actually do predictably well on them.

My order of difficulty with about 6 tests in each category is:
1) ECE (HARDEST)
2) CLEP (Something about these makes them seem harder than the DSSTs)
3) DSST (USUALLY EASIEST)
EC - BSLS Finally done!
Went from 86 to 120 credits in six weeks thanks to IC and the forum.
Currently doing MBA pre-reqs.
Now BSLS + 9 credits

CLEPs - as stated elsewhere on this forum, provides 5 solutions to choose from and you only have 90 minutes.

DSSTs - only 4 solutions to choose from and 2 hours

Think this is what makes CLEPs seem harder than DSSTs Smile

ECE's are more difficult and expensive by far. Like malcs mentioned, you must have the correct materials to be sure you're studying the right thing. Most CLEP and DANTES study materials are abundant, and available for cheap or free.

Judy mentions the time constraint of Cleps.
Cleps are the only tests that I feel rushed on. I always finish ECE and DSST tests with a huge amount of time to spare.

Based on my experience (and people I've worked with on their degrees) I have found DSST to be the easiest followed by CLEP and then by ECE.
