Passed Precalculus CLEP!!
#1
I passed the Precalculus CLEP test today! I was so nervous. It was my first time taking a CLEP so I was really worried. I scored a 53. I am so relieved. I studied a Blitzer textbook that I checked out from the library which was excellent at explaining everything. I also purchased the REA book for Precalculus and read it and did the two practice exams. Then, I did all 3 of the Peterson practice tests and was feeling really confident. Overall, I thought that the test was much harder than the Peterson practice exams and much more similar to the REA book. By the 3rd Peterson test, I was getting 81%, but I still only ended up getting a 53 on the CLEP. Oh well though, I passed.hilarious

The first one is always the hardest you don't know what to expect. I have not taken ay math CLEP's, but I usually find Petersons harder then the real thing

Congrats! I can't imagine taking PreCalc for my first CLEP. Well, I can't imagine taking PreCalc at all to be honest. Wink

What are your plans next?

I am probably not going to be taking any more CLEPs anytime soon because I only took this one because I need to have two semesters of Calculus done by Spring 2011 semester in order to not miss a Statistics class that I need that is only offered every other odd Spring semester at my college. I am majoring in Actuarial Science at IPFW in Fort Wayne. Passing this class saved me from having to graduate in 2014 instead of in 2012. I am happy! I have never taken Precalculus and I basically had to teach it all to myself. For my degree, my college does not accept CLEP credit, but since Precalculus isn't required for my major, I am just using the test as a prerequisite to get into Calculus this summer. It all worked out. My school allowed me to sign up for Calculus immediately following the exam. Now I just need to finish my finals this week so that I can have a few weeks off.:hurray:

WOW great job on Calculus. :hurray: My daughter is taking Calculus this semester at her university. They cannot use calculators its all by hand. She loves it.

Wow, that's great! Congrats! I've been considering taking PreCalc after College Math since Precalc is worth 5 credits at my school.

Too bad the peterson exams weren't very good, I have access to those! Do you think the REA book would be enough to study from? Did you think your main enemy was difficulty of the problems or time?

Reef Diver -- I would not suggest using the REA book solely. It was missing a lot of information. I got with a professor from UGA who teaches Precalculus to help me some, cause I was just not understanding how REA came up with the answers to the practice tests. She started looking through the REA book and she was shocked at all the important info. that was left out. She gave me a college textbook by Robert Blitzer and in about a week I was ready to take the test! It really helped. I would suggest you find a college textbook from somewhere and study through that, then use the REA tests for practice! That's just my experience with it! Good luck to you Smile Blesssings ~Kelsey

Oh wow, thanks for the advice Kelsey! With all these book sell-backs this week on campus I may be able to pick up a precalc book on the cheap. Hopefully that combined with the Rea practice exams will be enough! Those 5 credits are much too terribly tempting to not at least try for them.

Congratulations! Precalc was the hardest CLEP test I've taken so far. For anybody else thinking about taking this exam, I would recommend the CLEP Professor computer program. It was a lifesaver.

I began using ALEKS, but I think it was a little too thorough. If you really want to learn the subject well, definitely use ALEKS. But if you just want to pass quickly and move on, don't use ALEKS (in my opinion).
