Residency waiver fee payment means no cornerstone (TESU)

This actually makes intuitive sense for them to waive it. If you are waiving residency, you are not going to take many courses with the school, so the cornerstone is essentially useless. The cornerstone is designed to introduce students to the school and to make their experience easier. It's not a cash cow, or else they would have done like the for profits and made it a 3 credit course at full tuition. They made it 1 credit at a special tuition rate.

For all the crappy customer service stories we all share about TESU (myself included), I have never seen a time they did something to close some loophole. If anything, the residency waiver (someone had brought this up before me in another thread) is actually cheaper than what TESC used to charge for their old option.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

Hi, ndelcollo

Does this mean I can transfer up to 116 credits if i pay the wavier fee? I only will have to take the 1 credit TES-100 and another 3 credit course to complete a degree?

Yes. If you're going to transfer in almost of your courses, then you pay the $2,000 residency waiver. This has been the case since April or so.

All TESU BA/BS students have to take a capstone; for most degrees it's $1500 (out of state) for this course. For BSBA students, the Strategic Management capstone can be tested out of (the TECEP is $114) if you don't want to take the actual course.

The only thing we're not 100% certain of is whether or not you will have to also take TES-100. But that's a very minor issue at this point.

My evaluation (just completed this past week) automatically waived the Cornerstone.

!! Exception
The TES-100 Cornerstone: Lifelong Learning Strategies
course is not required for you as an individual degree
requirement because you meet the established waiver
criteria; you are a corporate choice partner student, an
eligible military student, or have 104 or more credits at
application. You may still wish to take this course, which
will fulfill 1 semester hour of general education elective
requirement.

Thank you for letting us know this. I'm curious to know if you apply with less than 104 credits, but then transfer in additional credits at some point before taking the capstone, if this will be required?

very curious, I was planning on getting my enrollment going (already applied) in November so I would go in with 90 credits but if I can dodge the corner stone, which from my perspective shouldn't apply to us distance learners, I'll go for the additional 14 credits before submitting for my eval

Maybe you should just ask about it? It's worth a call.

ndelcollo Wrote:That's awesome...a savings of $300! Now I need to fill in that missing 1 credit with an elective. Any cheap, easy, 1 credit general ed electives out there? Study.com's 1 credit Public Speaking will transfer in as a duplicate of the Straighterline course, correct? Com-209 for both? Study.com has a Com-300 Intro to Business Communication and Lit-208 English Lit and both could work for the 1 credit elective, I believe. That's not really cheap for most people but won't affect me with the year subscription. Any better ideas?

Look into the Medical Terminology TECEP! It's a 1 credit exam, and only cost me $38 (??). I studied about 8 hours tops (using the thread on here) and passed the next day. Smile
