BYU Independent - Public Speaking
#1
Has anyone take the BYU public speaking course and applied it toward a TESC degree? I don't see anything in the syllabus about a live audience which would be convenient for distance learning.

I've taken that course. However, I haven't applied it to TESC yet. Strange thing is that I don't see it on BYU's website anymore. Maybe I'm overlooking it. I'm not sure what your saying about the live audience in the syllabus. When I took it 3 years ago, I simply recorded my speeches and sent them to the teacher.

I took it a few years back when it was like only 400 bucks for the course. AF TA paid for it and both CCAF and TESC accepted it. There were no video speeches with audiences. It was approx 7 recorded speeches, which you could re-record as much as you liked. I did it in a weekend on my vacation. And the teacher graded super quick. I received an A.

Mind you, I recently looked at the syllabus for someone else and it seems that there are new requirements and you may have to record a video. Plus, IS is more expensive.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

Jody,

I know of two online public speaking courses that require audiences of 5 to 10 unrelated adults as part of the recorded speeches requirement. One claims that public speaking requires a public audience to avoid being an internet broadcasting course.

Thanks for the responses folks. I will run it by an academic adviser once I am officially an active student once again.
