Saylor Vs Study.com Vs SL, etc
#1
So, im doing my first "proctored" exam course at Saylor.org, ECON101 - Principles of Microeconomics

The course is pretty nice, im learning a lot new things, but to be honest it is taking to me a lot of time, now i finish the part 5 of 7 and based on Saylor progress-meter i reach 71% progress with the courses, i start with this about 10 days ago and i think it will takes me about 13-14 day to complete it.

Two courses per month it is not as bad for me, but when i start with this, based on what i read at the forum, i think that 5 courses per month was posibble.

So, i dont know if this low progress is because of Saylor.org courses "style" and i can do courses in faster way if i use study.com or SL.

So my question is, are courses faster in Study.com/SL that saylor.org??

Yes. Study.com and SL are frequently much faster than Saylor. Saylor has more difficult material. Saylor's material is also less connected to test material and there are some errors. Another reason for your slower progress is the subject matter. Microeconomics is more difficult than other classes, so it will take more time and effort than other subject areas. I have done eight shmoop classes so far this month, but, except for finite math, they have all been literature or history.

I don't have an answer for your specific question, but microeconomics will be harder for most students than most social science courses. I feel that microeconomics is also harder than some IT or science courses.

Also some of us, especially those who are older, have prior knowledge so we can skim or skip some lessons for some courses.

Saylor's course materials are hit-or-miss. Some courses are good, some are terrible, but all are overly long.

If you want to get through more courses, I would say that SL or Study.com are your best options. More expensive obviously, but in this case, you get what you pay for.

Now, if you want to use Study.com as a course provider for credit AND to study for Saylor proctored exams, that might not be a terrible idea. You sign up for Study.com, take 2 courses w/exams that you need, and use the study material for something that Saylor offers and then take the Saylor exam for $25 for that course, saving you some time and money (like Marketing is one I've heard is a decent course, but Study.com will still be shorter).

I feel like Saylor was faster than most providers for some courses. Since Study.com generally has 100 quizzes and SL generally has 20 longer quizzes.

Some of the Saylor Computer Science courses are not worth it at all.

The first thing to know about Shmoop is that are NOT accepted by TESU. So if you are working toward a Shmoop degree or if there is any possibility of switching to TESU, don't do this.

The second thing to know about Shmoop is that ten or fifteen of their courses are set to expire at the end of August 2019. If you don't intend to work quickly, this might be a problem.

Otherwise, Holocaust Literature, Drugs in Literature, History of Technology, Professional Writing and Introduction to ECommerce are easy.

Bethanyneedsajob created this list on the thread above. Note that Shmoop is in the process of renewing ACE approval. The already expired courses on this list seem to have been extended until the end of this month. Shmoop confirmed this with me via email and I completed Finite Math last week and it was added to my ACE transcript. Also, make sure that these courses work with your plan before taking them.
