Saylor.org and TESC create partnership.
#1
If this is a repost, I apologize in advance.

TESC and Saylor.org have come to a partnership agreement. For specific courses saylor and TESC will work together where the student studies using saylor and TESC administers an exam (TECEP style?) for college credit.

This sounds very promising.

Don't waste time by trying to save time. The only sure way to complete your degree is to knock out credits quickly and efficiently.

Don't let easiness bite you in the rear. Know your endgame (where you want to be) and plan backward from there. Your education is a means to an end.

Be honest professionally, socially and academically. There are people (especially little ones) who look up to you and they're going by your example.

Be proud. Whether you're an Engineer or Fast Food worker, there is honor and dignity in hard work.

Picking on people weaker than you only proves that you are a weak person.

Hallelujah! I hope students don't ask for stupid stuff that already have a bunch of alternative sources such as college algebra and intro to psychology. I'm a little annoyed by TESC's choosing of Management Information Systems as one of the first tests it will developed.

I know what you mean. It would be nice if they offer more advanced and specialized courses like Computer Science and upper level economics or hopefully operations management.

I'm excited.

I haven't even read the link and I'm excited!!!!!! We just started using Saylor in our homeschool this semester, and my kids are nearly finished with chemistry and music appreciation. So far, pretty good. We did not intend on using these for credit, just learning, but I'll re-think the options now!!

Here are the first 6 courses:
ntroduction to Comparative Politics
World History in the Early Modern and Modern Eras (1600-Present)
Management Information Systems
Negotiations and Conflict Management
Introduction to Mechanical Engineering
Thermodynamics

Also, didn't we have a short list of maybe 3 Saylor courses seeking or that have earned ACE evaluation? This list might start growing quickly!

Wow, this is awesome!! I've been using Saylor to study for Macro and Microeconomics and I've really enjoyed the format! If some of their courses will be worth college credit, that would be sweet!

This is great! But Im unfamiliar with the process. Is there a test to take like a CLEP style or is it more like ALEKS?

Well, that remains to be seen. The classes are divided into units, and each unit has reading, videos, etc to do. Some have little quizzes. How this will turn into a credit-earning exercise is an interesting question. You can visit the site and look around, everything is right there to look at.

It was NCCRS evaluated...but essentially YES!

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

You can also get credit for Saylo'rs Microbiology through Straighterline, but you have to pay Straighterline's subscription and proctor fees.

According to the article, TESC will tell students which Saylor courses align with current TECEPs and other CBEs. It also seems like TESC will mostly be focusing on creating TECEPs that align with already existing Saylor courses. I don't know about the "other assessments" part, but TECEPs are how students will probably earn credit in most cases. Unless Saylor gets NCCRS or ACE approval for more of its courses, the test out process will largely still be the same. Saylor will just be used as a study source. The exciting part is that there will be more TECEPs to take in potentially interesting subjects that aren't already covered. I bet the other courses will end up operating like e-packs with intermediate quizzes that don't count and a final exam that does.
