The book I found helpful was The Elements of Technical Writing by Gary Blake and Robert W. Bly. I also had just taken the English Comp. CLEP, so all the grammar stuff was fresh in my mind.

The Handbook of Technical Writing was a great resource for me. You can probably get a copy at the library or a used book store it is not a bad reference to have.
