I'm starting UMPI next session and was (am?) trying to knock out one more class before I begin...Spanish. I'm taking it through Instantcert and the struggle is real. I was most nervous to take biology & algebra but they fail in comparison in terms of feeling like I'll actually pass the class. (Is it just me? All was going very well until there was so much listening comprehension.) If all else, I've decided to look at this Instantcert class as a warm-up to taking Spanish 101 at UMPI, and hopefully being able to finish it quickly. If I actually pass it, fantastic, but if not, it's not wasted time.
If you took Spanish at UMPI, can you tell me your experience? I read there is a 500-word paper using only words taught in the class, so I'm hoping there is a bunch of crossover from what I'm learning in the Instantcert class. What else can I expect?

If you pass the InstantCert Spanish class, then you would transfer it and not need to take Spanish 101 at UMPI. The InstantCert course doesn't have a written essay or recorded speech so for many it's easier. I wouldn't take the course twice unless I failed it the first time. I'd spend the time earning more credit and being that much closer to completing my degree.
I took the course at UMPI. Writing the essay answering the questions given to you was a bit tricky. I used a Spanish English dictionary the professor gave us for some words to describe where I live. You have to use a list of verbs given in the class. Definitely ask the professor questions! She's really great about answering them.

As a last resort type of thing, you may want to take Spanish I at Study.com and another course. I'm not sure if you did the Bio w/lab at Study.com, but that's an option.

Spanish is easier on InstantCert. There's no oral component or written assignment on InstantCert. There is both on Study.com.

Maybe retake the non-final exams (there’s a three day waiting period in between) and see if you can bump up your grade? If you make sure to redo all of the lesson quizzes until you get 100% on each one, and push for higher marks on the non-final exams, there’ll be less pressure on you when you take the final.
For example, if you get 300/300 on the lesson quizzes and 80% on the non-proctored exams, then you only need to get a 50% on the proctored final exam to pass.

What lessons are the listening comprehension?
This book breaks down Spanish to its basics, you can read through it in under 2 hrs. Might help.

The vocabulary they give you in the Instantcert course, you can put into Quizlet. It takes some repetition to learn.
The Instantcert grading system is pretty easy. Just average a good enough score on the vocab and exams so that you only need a 50% on the final exam to pass.
Spanish isn't easy if you have never taken a foreign language course but Instantcert is one of the easiest ACE credit Spanish courses.

Thanks, everyone. I'm going to keep going and hope for the best. I'm almost at the 3rd exam. I was at 100% feeling confident until the 2nd exam where there was a bunch of listening comprehension that I hadn't experienced in the class yet. There were no words in text along with the speaking, and you cannot pause and replay just the question without going through all a, b, c, d, so it was hard for me to really feel confident in what I heard before it went on to all the possibilities. The timer made me feel rushed and I totally failed. I'm going to retake it though and hope for the best. Great idea for the quizlet!
