Straighterline partnering with TESC and Excelsior

I suppose then really ALEKS is subject to the same vulnerabilities. I mean what's to stop me from registering as my wife or one of my kids and knocking our Pre-Cal real quick? Of course I wouldn't do that but I'm sure someone would.

Absolutely, no question. I agree w/that as well. I was shocked I was able to use ALEKS for algebra. It was the one course I dreaded and it made it much easier for me. If someone said I took the easy way out, guilty as charged. I'm surprised Excelsior accepts it for credit.

Aleks is accepted by Excelsior because it is ACE reviewed.
Which means ACE has determined it is worth the credits listed.
Excelsior can accept it without fear of it hurting their accreditation , as they are following the review determined by ACE.

In regards to Straighterline, I doubt Excelsior would partner with them. I see no advantage for Excelsior to partner with them. As it stands now, their students can take the classes at other RA colleges and have their transcripts sent to Excelsior. Then when they accept the transcript they are only transferring in RA credits from another RA school which does not jeopardize their accreditation.

I do however see how or why these other RA schools might partner with Straighterline, as a cost savings measure. With this as an option, they may not need to have as many professors teaching these introductory courses, which could save them money in this tight economy.

Hey all.

Can you guys lead me to how I can transfer my credits from Straighterline to Excelsior. I'm thinking of getting my accounting credits done through them.

You'll need to apply to a partner school. FHSU is the most common I've seen from posters. I believe the app fee is $30. SL will send your grade to them and they'll transcript them for you. From there, just request a transcript from FHSU to EC.

I also mentioned that it'd be great if they were partnered w/ Excelsior, but Jennifer emailed back saying that they were not and many people have been able to use a transfer from FHSU to EC as mentioned frequently on this board.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, I work at a Technical Center in Florida -- actually I teach under a special certificate due to many, many years in my specialty and being certified by our professional association in it as well, again for many, many years. Although currently I'm teaching in a blended online course, with only 3 hours a week with face-to-face contact, prior to this past year I only taught face-to-face. How about some tales from the trenches....

We've all heard about the usual: Students who write on their arm or try to sneak a peak at a piece of paper. Try some of these on for size: A student who wrote in very small print with a Sharpie on all sides of a number 2 pencil, another who wrote on the bottom of their shoe, then the one who took off the lable from a bottle of water, wrote the answers on the inside and then glued it back. Now we also have to deal with cell phones taking pictures of tests and selling them or e-mailing them to friends, texting someone for an answer, and even special pens with cameras built in.

Bottom line, even in an atmosphere where people are supposedly looking to get educated for a career and should realize they will not be able to pass a licensing exam or certification exam, test out for the job, or last any period of time once on the job, there are still a small number who will cheat due to concerns more about a grade than gaining the knowledge.

Hope this made some of you chuckle.

Without having some sort of proctor for any exams would leave me to believe that schools would be reluctant to "partner" with these types of programs. Hey, I've been wrong before.

True, but why wouldn't Excelsior and TESC not want to partner up with Straighterline since they themselves don't have proctors on their online courses? Unless they look at it from a business standpoint, (losing money) then I would understand if they don't partner up.
