Study.com Data Structures Review
#1
Just finished the data structures with study.com and I am amazed with the quality abd amount of information. I really liked it, it wasnt too easy but an awesome course overall and I highly recommed it. As soon as they are finsihed reviewing the video and giving my score for the assignment I'll be done! Thank you study.com for intro to programming and data structures as soon as TESU accepts them I'll be done with my CS degree.

Nice. I should definitely have waited for study.com to come out with data structs and algo instead of taking it at a cc.

@MrBossMan Jr. I was so close to paying for it. Like 2 days, then I saw the post with the new courses!

@akr680 took me about 16 hours total.

The two part project looks super easy. The first part isn't really even data structs and algo. It's more of an introduction to programming part 2. The second part just takes time, but it tells you exactly what it wants.

Just got my results back, got an A! That 96% for the final assignment reallt helped a lot! Yes! Once TESU accepts this I'll be done with my CS degree! submitting a transcript...I'll post the equivalency here once it returns.

Congrats! Yeah having an assignment dilute quite a bit the exam weight, I think it’s good that there is an assignment but it makes this course easier to achieve.

I will soon finish both intro and this one, then will only miss the capstone!

what do they actually record ?
is it a programming assignment ? like create a binary search tree ?
and you have to code it from scratch while they record you coding ?

@bliebooger They record you taking the exam. Nope the only algorithm to create from scratch was the bubble sort for a 2 dimensional array.

It was a very realisitic assigmnent more about understanding what the data strucutres are and when to use them like hash maps, trees, arrays etc. Whoever came up with it has real world experience. In the real world its about knowing when to use which data structure than implementing it from scratch.

Like most coding assignments in college its a take home that you submit.

I say the course was good because it focused on using data structures and their characteristics more than implementing it yourself. Most modern programming languages have functions for creating almost any data structure you will need in real world programming.

The course did cover how you would create your own and give code examples throughout for everything. I really cant see someone who knew nothing coming out with no more knowledge. It also focused havily on BigO, which I think was awesome.

And I despise that word 'coding'. For me 'coding' is cutting and pasting 'code'. I think about code monkeys and those stupid 'web coders' who dont know the differnce between integration and a program counter. I aslo think about that 'everyone can code'. Its so deragatory to call someone a 'coder'. Yuck. Such poor taste.

Hey, I know this thread is a little older but I'm trying to get a little bit of clarification on the assignment.

I emailed SDC and even used one of my "ask a tutor" questions and still haven't heard back.

Please tell me if I'm interpreting the first part correctly...

Develop a program that asks the user to enter a capital for a U.S. state. Upon receiving the user input, the program reports whether the user input is correct. For this application, the 50 states and their capitals are stored in a two-dimensional array in order by state name. Display the current contents of the array then use a bubble sort to sort the content by capital. Next, prompt the user to enter answers for all the state capitals and then display the total correct count. The user's answer is not case-sensitive.

1. The user is to enter the capital for each state (50 prompts)

2. Print out the content of the array, in other words, all the states and their capitals (50)

3. Bubble sort array by capital

4. User to enter answers for all capitals (50 prompts)

5. Display how many answers user got correct
