[TESU] Evaluation - Help Planning the rest
#1
I just noticed that TESU completed my ACE and University transfers. Several courses posted in unexpected areas so my current plan is shot. I'm working on re-doing the spreadsheet. My preference for courses is SL if possible, Saylor is ok too. DSST/CLEP if one of the others isn't available. I have CIS-107 TECEP planned to lock in the current catalog before the cornerstone requirement. Any recommendations to fill what I'm missing, and should I ask advising to move any of these around? Example - Issues in Sport was really about social/cultural/race/gender issues in sports, but it's under a physical education code. The Institutes Ethics course came in under PHI-384 under Diversity - I thought this would land under Ethics. I'm thinking a SL Ethics course might be easier than a diversity course, but not sure of the options. Thanks for taking a look...

Way to go! Have you taken a course from them yet? Or is that TECEP your first one?
I am debating to wait for cornerstone and actually taking that for GPA purposes for $300.

As a TECEP is only pass/fail if I remember correctly, I'll have to take something with them.
Otherwise I'll have to take a 1 credit course but that will be $499.

Please update your plan/spreadsheet and we can critique it.
Have you decided on all your courses already?

TECEP is first which should give me a May enrollment date to avoid the cornerstone. Before TESU evaluated my transcripts the TESU GPA said "not met" but now it's blank which I take as not needing a TESU GPA. If I end up needing one I will take the cornerstone later.

I haven't updated my spreadsheet yet as the evaluation came back differently than I expected (not necessarily worse, just different). I'm trying to put something together but figured I'd get some suggestions after posting the eval.

Some of my courses came in at random places and I had to request that they be moved around, so that's an option. Even so many credits in I am still having to occasionally request that courses be moved which can be frustrating (as my recent post mentions), but not a huge deal. It's good to keep an eye on your eval until you get it how you want it. Forum members are really helpful with that -- dfrecore really helped me in the past with rearranging my Academic Eval.

You just need to ask them to move the Ethics course, which will free up the diversity area (there are more options available).

For the Issues in Sports course, you just need to request that they reclassify the course as a Diversity course (if that's what you want), and you will need to send them info in order for them to make this change. Getting the course description from the school catalog, along with a syllabus, is a great way to do so. I had mine electronically, and sent them at the same time I made my request. They can't do anything with just the course name, they need to know why it should be something other than what they initially classified it as.

If there is anything else you thought should come in differently, let us know which course(s) that is and we can help.

Thanks for the responses. I'm going to chart it out as is on a spreadsheet and see if I would benefit from moving some items. It will be difficult to get a syllabus for a course from 16 years ago, hopefully the original school still offers it.

On another subject, is it possible to obtain an ASNSM in Computer Science concurrently with BSBA General Management degree? I can't find much information on the TESU site.

I called my old school from 1989 and they emailed me the green sheet from the course I took at that time (well, I think they sent me one from 1994 or something like that). Yes, they still teach the course, and yes, they still keep old copies of stuff in each department. Not sure every school will, but I have a feeling they are supposed to keep paperwork for many years, possibly even forever (they usually keep all of their old catalogs).

It certainly can't hurt to call and ask!

Also, you should check to see if CIS-244 (in "other courses") can be counted as a computer science course and fit into the Natural World area. That would certainly be convenient. And if you're good at computers, you might want to take Saylor's Computer Science course/exam and put that in there as well.

Good luck!

Thank you! I submitted separate requests to Academic Advising to:

1. Move PHI-384 from Diversity to Ethics. At first I thought it would be easier to just take SL's Business Ethics course but it also appears to transfer as PHI-384 and I assume it would duplicate.
2. Consider CIS-244 as Computer Science and place it in the Natural World area.
3. Place Issues in Sport under Diversity. I was able to find a Syllabus from a more recent version of the course and the course description on the University's website and included it in the request. Roughly half the course dealt with race/gender/sexuality issues in sport so I'm hoping they consider moving it.
4. Ordered a large Hawaiian pizza.

I'm going to wait to hear back before tackling revising my degree plan. The wife is out of town so I've got all 4 kids to myself and my brain is fried.

Thanks again for your help! Just seeing the credits on my evaluation makes me feel that much more motivated to get this done. I'm glad I submitted them now rather than waited until the end.

Ok, I lied - I couldn't wait so I went ahead and put together this degree plan based on the evaluation. I'm still hopeful the items I listed will be addressed. I will likely replace many courses with SL courses where available.

Attached is my tentative plan. Please pick it apart. After taking the SL classes that I did, I really enjoy their format. I'd like to maximize my credits from there where possible.
