Has anyone taken the Technical Writing Exam. If so, what was the difficulty and any assistance on study guides materials or anything online would be helpful

Passing is a 46. I finished with about a half hour to spare. Anyone with corporate work experience should be able to pass it. If you've seen memos, RFPs, technical papers, and the like, you should be fine. High school students might not have a clue, though.

Go to the online free Peterson's site and find the download for the 400 page DSST guide. It has a section on the Technical Writing test. It covers everything you need to know to pass. No need to spend money on a study guide.

At TERC (Testing and Education Reference Center), choose "DSST prep". Then the right-hand column says "online book" with that list of 8 subjects, choose "DSST: The Official Test Preparation Guide". On the next page choose "Read book". Then sign in and it will download a 400 page pdf guide. It is a newly published Peterson's ebook. It has 2 practice tests for each of these exams: Business Mathematics Ethics in America Fundamentals of College Algebra Introduction to Computing Principles of Public Speaking Principles of Supervision Substance Abuse Technical Writing I hope it helps you with your studies!

Hi Nap- I must be on the wrong website--I can't seem to find what you mentioned?? I am looking at petersons.com website (is this the correct site?) and I don't see any mention of Dsst anywhere. There is a orange bar across the homepage after you click on a link that says College Center. On the orange bar there are drop down menus with one that says test prep. They do not give a choice of Dsst-- it only mentions Clep, AP, SAT, GED etc. I am interested in information about Art of the Western World Dsst exam. Do you know if the 400 page guide covers any info on that? It is extremely difficult to find info for that exam. I downloaded the Exam Fact Sheet at the Dsst website but very little info included. And no practice exam available for this test

Hi Creative!
The free Peterson's site is available through TERC (on left side) of this website: INSPIRE Information Unfortunately, I have not seen anything through Peterson's for the Art of the Western World exam. (I am like you and love having practice exams. I hope you will be able to find a good textbook website for some practice quizzes.)

My son passed the DSST Technical Writing exam with a 62. He is a college freshman with no employment history, so he has no familiarity with business memos and documents. He used the free Peterson's guide to prepare. He said his prep time was 3-4 hours. I directed him to Online Technical Writing: Contents to look up things he wasn't familiar with.
