I have most all of the gen ed courses completed. I just need to finish up the CIS part. So far I took the MIS DSST. I'm going to take the Networking Tech TECEP. The programming language I'm taking through pennfoster. Systems and design from TESC starting Dec. By my count I still need 6 UL credits in CIS. My question is does TESC adhere to ACE credits when it comes to certs. There are a few Microsoft tests that are UL. I can get 2 certs in database admin and design for 4 UL credits and 2 UL credits in Virtualization.

Has anyone had experience in this area?

TESC does not follow ACE recommendations for UL/LL credits. They probably already have the Microsoft tests matched up with something in the PLA database.

You can get college credit for taking Java courses here JavaOnline via the NCCRS which is just like ACE.

Many say "lower or upper" credit. I'm not sure what credit TESC will award.

Your career would be better served learning Java then Visual Basic or Access from PennFoster. There are 4 times as many Java jobs as VB. Just check out Indeed.com Job Search

I'm also not a fan of PennFoster based on my past bad experience with them. Make sure you double check yourself that any course taken at PennFoster has ACE approval. Make sure you check the date ranges very carefully on the ACE site. Do not take anyone's "word" for it.

You can get two UL credits for free from TEEX. Did they say the CIS courses had to be UL? You could get another 2 credits from TEEX coded as CIS-299.

On the eval it says 12 credits UL. That's what I was going off of.

Thanks jam123 for the link that's what I was looking for. I'm really looking for the easiest route. I am already a CTO and just need this rubber stamp to move on with my career to something bigger, who knows if it will be better! :-)

9 UL credits should already be knocked out with the DSST, TECEP, and TESC course. The 12 UL credits is for the entire specialization which includes the two required courses: Programming Languages and System Analysis and Design.

I was looking at putting together a recommendation for the CIS component of the BSBA-CIS, but I came up an UL level credit short. Here is what I put together--

TESC___CIS-320 System Analysis and Design___________(3)
DSST___CIS-301 Management Information Systems_______(3)
TECEP__CMP-354 Networking Technologies______________(3)
TEEX___CIS-299 Cyber Security for Everyone__________(2)
TEEX___CIS-344 Cyber Security for IT Professionals__(2)
SLINE__COS-213 Introduction to Programming in C++___(3)
SLINE__COS-2?? Introduction to Programming Java_____(3)

That's 19 credits for the Area of Study, which requires at least 18 credits. This is good.
However, is only 11 upper level credits and 12 are required. Not so good.

The problem is that programming languages are only counted as 200 level courses. (I'm not sure how the Java course transcribes but I'm pretty sure it is 2XX.) Or the problem can be seen as the TEEX courses come up one credit short.

BTW, SLINE stands for StraighterLine, which now offering a C++ course and will soon offer the Java course.
