Has anyone taken classes online at UC Berkeley Extensions? Specifically science classes? Just curious how they are transcribed to TESC. I am under the impression that the UC classes that are 100 series are upper level for TESC?
Any input regarding UC Berk owuld be much appreciated!! I'm a Natural Sciences and Math major and need upper level science classes to get outta TESC.

Google "student doctor network"- members in the pre-med forum use UC Berkeley Extension science classes like crazy (on line and f2f) so you can likely find someone in the class you are considering.
TESC absolutely does NOT take 100 level classes and make them upper level. They'll like stay 100 level. TESC has, on occasion, taken 200 number classes and made them 100 level

That happened to me once banghead
There have been a few threads lately on how to find upper level sciences, have you tried the schools inside those threads?

At UC Berkeley I think the 100 series classes are the upper level, Todd, an advisor at TESC is in the process of confirming officially for me.

Jennifer, US Berkeley Extension uses a different numbering system- 0 to 99 are LL and 100-199 are UL.
OP- it's even possible that one or more of LL Berkeley courses might even be considered UL by TESC- just ask your advisor.
Looks like Berkeley has Immunology, Intro to Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and Genetics as UL, and I can't fathom TESC considering any of them LL, especially when Berkeley says they are UL. Note that would be 12 of the 18 UL credits needed.
Marine Biology, Organic Chemistry, The Biology of Cancer, Human Physiology as LL. Organic Chem may be considered UL by TESC.

Just got this response from an EXCELLENT advisor at TESC....he has been outstanding so far....good guy!
UC Berkeley Extension classes:
Genetics will apply as BIO-341
Immunology will apply as BIO-412
Molecular Bio will apply as BIO-404
Biology of Cancer will apply as BIO-305
Biochemistry will apply as BCH-311
Obviously, all UL.

Just a FYI, UC Berkeley is one of the only UCs where the extension classes actually carry real credit. Some of the other UCs offer extension course, but they don't transfer as real credit.
Denise
MS - Management and Leadership, WGU 2022
BS - Liberal Arts - Depths in Healthcare and Psychology, Excelsior College 2014
Certificate - Workers Comp Admin, UC Davis Extension, 1995
AA - Licensed Vocational Nursing and Selected Studies, Mesa College 1989
Certificate - Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN), Mesa College 1977
Also, someday maybe a MS in Forensic Psychology, just for fun. Oh, and a BS in Animal Behavior. And, maybe when I'm 85 a PhD in something fun.

Hi,
sorry to revive an old thread but I thought it was relevant. I just got my transcript review from TESC and there is this line:
The course listed on your University of California Berkeley Extension transcript is a professional course. Thomas Edison State College does not accept professional course credits in transfer.
I had taken a Project management class there and was hoping it would transfer. Any newer info on this? Should I contact someone at TESC?
Thanks!

While there are many exceptions to any rule on credit transfers, most of the time coursework that is labeled as continuing education (having a number of CE credits) or coursework from an extension program will be difficult to transfer. Those courses aren't meant to tranfer into a degree, rather they are intended for people to learn a new skill on the side. If you really need the course you can always do it as a PLA course (of course that will cost a bunch of money though). Since Berkeley calls their extension program "professional and continuing education for adults" I have to agree with TESC, those are not college credits in most cases. Berkeley writes this on their site (
http://extension.berkeley.edu/info/grades.html):
"Other institutions may accept UC Berkeley Extension credit toward an undergraduate degree, but acceptance is always determined by the institution to which you are applying. Policies regarding the acceptance of Extension credit toward graduate degrees vary widely among institutions and individual programs. Check with the institution and adviser before enrolling."
My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.
