@Tswede, they're letting you do the BAS because you have an AAS and enough 'technical credits'. My question is, which AAS do you currently have and where did you get it from (which college/university)? Could you provide us an academic evaluation? I thought UMPI were getting stricter on what constitutes 'technical credits' and don't really know how they're letting people get into the BAS vs remaining on the BLS degree... The main appeal for the BAS is the UL requirements in addition to the appeal of the "applied science" vs "liberal studies" in the degree name.

Thanks, @bjcheung77
I understand the appreciation of 'applied science vs. liberal studies; however, I was interested in what @Tswede intended to use it for, or was it just the wording appeal?

I work in a technical field where this would be much more respected than any Liberal Studies field and Business Administration is not my thing. I don't know about any differences in UL requirements or coursework. I already have more than 130 credits collected, so whatever 10 classes they tell me I should take are the ones I will take.

Yes, I can do that. I will need to figure out how this forum posts pictures. The BAS evaluation is hand written, but there's also a transfer credit report.
They accepted more of my technical credits than I expected. It may help that I actually work in the same field where they come from? Not sure, but I did go back and forth trying to ask questions about how it works and all the responses were really vague, noncomittal. I made my preference known and explained why it would be important in my field, but still didn't get more info back. I kind of felt like it was intentionally vague, like they don't want to give it as an option. Then my eval came over with that form. I suppose that's ok, they may be wanting to limit enrollment in it for some reason. If it's an "easier" degree to get, then maybe that's why. They don't want to dilute the program for accreditation reasons maybe? Don't know.

The BAS is not technically a YourPace degree. UMPI has really limited anyone in YourPace completing one. It's an on campus degree. They want you in the BA or BLS programs on YourPace. It's rare they're letting anyone into the BAS these days. Two years ago I was rejected even though I have an AAS and met the tech credit requirement. I had to go with the BLS. This has happened to several people on here.

I suspect they are very particular about which fields are considered technical, in terms of the BAS. None of my business credits counted except those that were data analytics, for instance. It seems to be about whether or not they offer those programs as part of a BLS or a BABA program and if so, then it can't be technical enough to count. That's my general conclusion.

Thanks for the background on the value of earning a BAS for you. I always enjoy hearing someone score extra credits or get accepted into a program previously not allowed. It always reinforces to ask/try because you get an unexpected Yes every once in a while. + it also creates an opportunity for future students whenever someone breaks a barrier.

I don't know what the deal is. Accounting and business administration are both on the list of acceptable subjects for the BAs. My guess is that they just don't want it on YourPace for whatever reason. There could be some administrative thing going on behind the scenes. Who knows. At one point, you couldn't complete a second degree if you completed the BLS. That rule has since changed. That one made no sense. Here I'm offering you money and you're like nope. Made no sense.

Do you have a link to the list of acceptable subjects for the "technical credits" for the BAS? That would be very helpful to help unravel the mystery. Are you saying that there is a list that says Business Admin and Accounting are acceptable as technical credits?

Yup. It's on the website, but these are on campus degrees. YourPace has always had different programs. And almost nothing on the UMPI website pertains to YourPace students.
